10.8.1 Liveability studies A study of a region’s liveability considers both natural and human characteristics. All communities want a safe, healthy place to live, a sustainable environment, a liveable wage, good infrastructure and social opportunities. Liveability survey results depend on several factors: • Where a person lives affects access to services, jobs and nature, and inþuences how people view the region. • Different age groups have different needs and opinions. • Current economic conditions impact people; for example, a major employer may have opened or closed. • Environmental conditions like drought also affect people. • Government policies that shape infrastructure, housing and local grants. To assess liveability, various themes must be explored using census data, surveys and ýeldwork.
