10.11.6 Change in the future In Victoria, some rural towns might lose people as big farms use more machinery and factory closures result in less job opportunities. Towns near Melbourne are expected to grow. People can access jobs and entertainment in the city while living in regional Victoria. More people mean more businesses and services are needed. The population of Perth is expected to grow from 2.1 million in 2023 to 3.5 million in 2050; an increase of almost 67 per cent. A growing economy, quality of life and increased urban development are the key drivers of this change, making it the third largest city in Australia.
