Data will be gathered from multiple sources, such as tables and media reports (print and visual), and different perspectives will be considered and be evident in your research. 11.2.4 Evaluating democratic institutions and systems An evaluation involves considering the strengths and weaknesses of a particular idea. This will be achieved through selecting, explaining and comparing information, data and ideas from a range of sources. By examining contemporary issues , you will identify the main features and ideas that underpin Australia’s political institutions. You will look for bias and different perspectives when forming your own opinions. You must keep in mind the cultural, religious and/or social inþuences on Australia’s democratic institutions, and consider how democratic values and the principles of the legal system are expressed. Using evidence, you will explain how political opinions are inþuenced, formed and put into effect within Australia’s democratic institutions and evaluate how effectively Australian citizens use their political and legal systems. 11.2.5 Participating in civic processes Participating in the civic process involves identifying ways in which active and informed citizens can engage with democratic decision-making such as by voting. You will examine methods of civic participation at local, state and national scales and explain how and why you might participate in civic processes. 11.2.6 Communicating Using a variety of methods, you will present and communicate ideas, perspectives and arguments based on evidence and research on contemporary civics and citizenship issues. Explanations will be clearly expressed and consider not just the issue but also the outcome of civic action, participation and engagement.
