14.2.1 Multiculturalism Imagine your classroom as a mini version of Australian society. Six of the students in your class may have been born overseas, and ten may have parents born outside Australia. This is multiculturalism in action. Australia’s cultural history is complex and diverse. While it is home to the world’s oldest living cultures in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, it also has a rich history of immigration, with people from nearly 200 nations making Australia their home.
