Inclusive Australia’s reports have more recently indicated that the country ranks highly on the Social Progress Index, with many Australians considering their society to be tolerant, compassionate and inclusive, aligning with the values and traditions upheld in the nation. However, reports in 2022 suggested that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples surveyed experienced major discrimination and religious and racial groups were still targeted by some of the highest levels of prejudice in Australia. 14.4 SkillBuilder activity PARTICIPATING IN CIVIC PROCESSES Can you foster cohesion and inclusion in your classroom with shared values while respecting diversity? 1. Work in groups to create a class values statement. 2. Present and explain the statement, ensuring everyone participates. 3. Be prepared to defend your statement or be ready to answer questions and adjust values based on feedback. 4. After all presentations, reach a consensus on one shared class values statement. 5. Discuss : Are these values uniquely Australian? Justify your answer.
