Responsibilities as well as rights
What is an ethical consumer or producer? The Australian Consumer Law protects buyers, but consumers also have responsibilities. Here are some of them. • When you buy goods or services, you make a legal contract. This doesn’t always mean signing a paper. Any agreement between a buyer and seller is a contract, even without a signature. As a buyer, you must pay the right amount for what you buy. This is important if you buy on credit, like a phone with a payment plan. • If you borrow money or use a credit card, you must pay it back. If you don’t, your credit rating can get bad. This can last for ýve years and might stop you from getting loans during that time. • You can’t return items for a refund if you use them incorrectly. If you break something by using it the wrong way, you usually can’t get money back. It’s important to use things as the maker intended. 16.6 SkillBuilder activity INTERPRETING AND ANALYSING DATA AND INFORMATION Online shopping, or ecommerce, became popular in the mid-1990s with big companies like Alibaba and Amazon. Sites like eBay and apps like PayPal made it easier. If you ask your parents about shopping when they were young, they might say they mostly bought things in stores with cash. How has online shopping changed shopping, and what will it be like in the future? In this activity, you will learn how to interpret trends, consider possible causes of those trends, and use data to make predictions about the future.
