51. 1909-13 M101-2 Sporting News Supplements Ty Cobb (HOF) - PSA AUTHENTIC
Beautiful image of Ty Cobb as distributed in August of 1909 by the Sporting News as part of an issue that featured 100 different supplements distributed between 1909 and 1913. This example is quite pleasing given its significant wear, but is mostly intact, despite the AUTHENTIC grade assessed by PSA. Some creasing is evident throughout, along with very visible water staining at the top edge, and some paper loss and tiny tears along the edges. Still, as PSA begins to grade more examples from the issue, their scarcity becomes more apparent, as each supplement was, essentially, issued on one day and then became part of history. As such, the keys from this issue have become quite sought after in any grade.
MINIMUM BID: $1,000
52. 1909-11 T206 Old Mill Ty Cobb (HOF - Red Background) - SGC FR 1.5
Rich in color, this midgrade example of Tris Speaker’s only T206 card pictures the Boston outfielder preparing to swing the bat. The deep blue background serves as an outstanding contrast to his light uniform, the print registration on point here. Reasonably sharp for the grade, some softer top corners likely keep the card from the EX level and top-to-bottom centering conspire to keep it from higher plateaus, but the overall visual appeal remains outstanding. A tremendous card, rapidly rising to the higher echelons of desirable subjects in this popular issue. 53. 1909-11 T206 Tris Speaker (HOF) - VG-EX+ 4.5 MINIMUM BID: $750
As the auction prices of T206 Hall of Famers has skyrocketed, the prices of the more common (but very desirable) card of Ty Cobb has followed suit, the red-background portrait card remaining one of the most popular cards in the set. Plenished with a difficult back, however, brings the card to another level entirely. This example, graded FR 1.5 by SGC, does exhibit some surface creasing that breaks into the red background, and pronounced corner rounding, however, the card is largely clean, with strong print registration and excellent centering. A tremendous card.
