329. 1907 Grignon Chicago Cubs Postcards Complete, Graded Set (16)
Grignon postcards were issued in 1907 to memorialize the Chicago Cubs’ dominant season of 1906. The set featured 16 members of the World Champion Cubs, including four Hall of Famers. Considered scarce and desirable today, the horizontal cards have a green background and white border, with the central figure not being an actual player but a teddy bear in a baseball pose. The player image is inset in the upper-right corner, with a line of infield chatter (i.e. “Good eye, good eye”) printed in the center. Presented here is a seldom-seen complete set of 16 postcards, all but one graded by SGC. The set does include several of the scarce Boston Oyster House cards (noted below), issued in advance of the following season and
including the Cubs’ 1908 schedule. Even the postally-used lower- grade examples present well, an attractive grouping. The collection includes the following: SGC EX+ 5.5 (3 cards): Kling, Moran, Overall. SGC EX 5 (1 card): Reuhlbach. SGC VG/EX+ 4.5 (3 cards): Pfeister, Steinfeldt, Taylor. SGC VG 4 (1 card): Lundgren. PSA VG 3 (1 card): Sheckard. SGC GOOD+ 2.5 (1 card): Tinker (HOF - Boston Oyster House). SGC GOOD 2 (2 cards): Chance (HOF - Boston Oyster House), Evers (HOF). SGC FAIR 1.5 (3 cards): Brown (HOF), Hoffman, Slagle (Boston Oyster House). SGC PR 1 (1 card): Schulte. 16 cards total. MINIMUM BID: $1,500
