Hello everyone, I hope you are all doing well! For those who
weekly for 20 to 30 seconds to keep it from seizing. Remember, WATER, RUN, OFF, WATER OFF. Running only cool water while grinding waste .
will be traveling north I wish you a safe trip and we will miss you while you are away. As the residents in the mid - rise building know, we have some blockages from time to time. I felt it prudent to send out a reminder on proper use of our garbage disposals. From what I have seen, most blockages can be avoided and will cut costs down in related services. This is not contained to the mid - rise section of our community. Proper operating sequence . All residents can benefit from this brief list. For best operation, follow this order. 1. Start running cool water. 2. Turn on the disposal. 3. Gradually put food in ( don ’ t shove it in all at once ). 4. Run the disposal until food is gone (usually 30 seconds is enough). 5. Turn it off and let the water run for another 10 or 15 seconds to flush out the drain. Cleaning it correctly. • Sprinkle in a bit of baking soda to freshen and clean. • Lemon, lime, or small citrus slices as cleaners can eliminate odors. • Grind up a few ice cubes, which will knock off bits of food that may be caught inside the disposal. • Never use bleach or harsh drain cleaners as they could cause a malfunction. • You should also run your disposal at least
Cold water is preferred, as it allows any fat or grease to be chopped up by the disposal and move through the pipes in pieces. Hot water
could melt fat and clog a pipe. Do not process nonfood items.
This includes wooden matches, twist ties, cigarettes, rubber bands or pliable rubber materials, and of course glass. Please only food waste items. Do not pour grease or fat into the disposal . Grease can solidify in the pipes the same way wax becomes solid at room temperature. Grandma ’ s system of keeping a grease jar or old coffee can near the stove for bacon grease and used cooking oil is still good today. Use any metal can, glass bowl or jar and let it cool. Avoid grinding waste that will clog or damage your unit. Certain types of food should never be put down your garbage disposal because they can lead to damage, jams or drain clogs. These include grease, liquid fat, uncooked fat trimmings, potato peels, expandable foods (like rice, pasta, and flour - based foods like dough and even bread) and large animal bones.
