Hello, everyone! It’s Goli, your office manager, here today to discuss a topic that may sound rather boring, but it’s one of the most important considerations on people’s minds today: insurance. Specifically, Dr. Justene asked me to step in and talk about open enrollment for dental insurance.

of pocket. I can’t tell you how many patients are shocked to discover their insurance won’t pay a cent when they come in for braces. Health savings accounts can also present a similar dilemma if you don’t know how much money you should be putting in. The cheapest insurance plan may end up costing you far more if it doesn’t meet your needs. The costs of dental care are far more overwhelming for the 40 percent of Americans who don’t have insurance of any kind. Many people avoid going to their dentist altogether, no matter how damaging this choice may be to their health. In order to better help such patients, we are proud to offer an in-house discount plan which can help cover the costs of your visit. This plan is available to patients who are currently without dental insurance, and it grants discounts on numerous treatments for those who enroll. You can learn more about our in-house discount plan on page three. For those who struggle to make the right decision about their insurance during this open enrollment period, we’re here to help! On Saturday, October 14, we will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Patients can come chat with me about their dental needs and examine their options. This invitation also extends to employers trying to determine which insurance they should offer their employees. Dental insurance may be frustrating, but you don’t have to go it alone. RSVP at 619-265-2467 to reserve a time to stop by. I’ll be happy to help determine how much coverage you need for dental treatment in the coming year, and I’ll recommend the best plan to cover your needs. - Goli

This time of year, employers who provide dental insurance will give their employees the

opportunity to enroll in their plans. When you consider that almost 40 percent of Americans do not have dental insurance, those with access to employer-sponsored plans are relieved to enroll. However, many times there are different tiers of insurance available, and it can be difficult to choose which plan best suits your needs. Choosing insurance is never easy, but there are a few aspects of insurance I want to highlight. To start, you may have to choose between a health maintenance organization (HMO) and a preferred provider organization (PPO) plan. It’s important to determine which plan your preferred doctor accepts. Many dentists (ourselves included) do not accept HMO dental insurance. Patients at A+ Family Dentistry would be better off selecting a PPO plan, if available. Another challenge of dental insurance is price. More often than not, patients will pick the insurance that seems to best fit their budget, only to learn later that the plan doesn’t cover their needs. If you need four cleanings per year, implants, and orthodontic treatment, you don’t want a plan that will only cover two cleanings and force you to pay for ortho out
