This course builds upon the skills and techniques developed in Wood and Metal Working 1, while introducing new concepts and challenges within the field of design. Students will explore advanced fabrication methods, including woodcarving, welding, and furniture design, as they deepen their understanding of 3D project creation. This class is ideal for those who are passionate about hands-on work and interested in all stages of design and construction. Students will learn to design and fabricate functional works, conduct independent artist research, take calculated risks with non-traditional materials, and execute an independently proposed project. Through this process, they will refine their craftsmanship and creativity, gaining valuable skills that extend beyond the classroom.
This exciting, hands-on course is a yearlong experience open exclusively to students who have completed both level one and two. It offers an active learning environment where students take charge of their artistic journey. Students will dive into detailed project proposals and research, driven by their own interests and creative direction. They won’t just be working on small assignments — they’ll be immersed in long-term, large-scale projects, where they’ll have the chance to design and build set pieces for the 2025 Haunted Hall event, the holiday music show, the 2026 spring musical, and even various welding projects and campus installations. Throughout the course, students will actively assess their progress, gaining valuable skills that prepare them for a college-level studio arts experience. It's all about diving into real-world projects, pushing boundaries, and creating art that makes an impact!
