Brass / Strings Ensemble Year - 1 credit Prerequisite: Instructor Approval

This performance ensemble is for students who want to explore the diverse history of jazz, from its origins to modern-day expressions, within a collaborative ensemble. Exploring foundational rhythms and iconic compositions, students will delve into the evolution of jazz styles while honing their improvisational skills. By embracing both tradition and innovation, students will cultivate a deep appreciation for the genre's rich legacy while exploring its contemporary relevance. All instruments including voice are welcome. AP Music Theory Year - 1 credit Prerequisite: Proficiency in musical notation, fundamental performance skills (vocal or instrumental), and the discipline to succeed in AP Music Theory. Enhance your capacity to recognize and articulate the components and mechanisms of music. In AP Music Theory, you’ll expand your comprehension of musical structures by engaging with diverse musical pieces, analyzing scores, composing music, utilizing music software and performing through instruments and/or voice. Skills You'll Develop Recognizing characteristics of pitch, intervals, scales, keys, chords, meter, rhythm, and other musical principles in both live, written music, digital music Sight-singing a notated melody Transcribing music by ear Completing musical passages based on given prompts while adhering to traditional stylistic conventions

Independent Study in Performing Arts Semester - 0.5 credit Prerequisite: Instructor Approval

This course is for students who have interest in pursuing special topics in the field of performing arts which are not currently offered in traditional classes.
