Get to Know TPT’s Giving Team An inside look at how substantial financial contributions support and sustain our community-rooted mission.
How does someone get started if they’re interested in leaving a legacy at TPT, sharing their love for the organization with future generations?
At Twin Cities PBS, the support of our community powers programs and outreach services that inform, inspire and connect us all. TPT viewers, donors and volunteers play a pivotal role in sustaining the mission of public media for future generations. In this Q&A, the Giving Team shares how your contributions make an impact, the ways we engage with supporters and how planning for the future today helps to preserve public media for tomorrow.
It’s as easy as A, B, C...D.
A Ask questions and learn about estate planning by doing your research. Check out “Estate Planning 101” from Next Avenue (nextavenue. org), our digital journalism site for older adults navigating the next phases of their lives. B Contact the Giving Team. We can discuss planned giving options such as wills, trusts, charitable gift annuities or retirement accounts. Many options allow you the ability to leave a legacy while offering tax benefits for you and your heirs. We’ll also discuss aligning your values with TPT’s mission for the legacy you envision. C Collaborate with an estate attorney or financial advisor to discern what options are right for you—such as bequests, beneficiary designations or charitable trusts. Share TPT’s legal name, tax ID and address for your legal documents. D Make sure to inform the Giving Team of your plans. Sharing your intentions now saves the team time and ensures that all details are properly documented, your intentions are understood and we can recognize your commitment. Can you share an example of how a major gift or a planned gift has made a difference in the community we serve? One great example is the generosity of TPT donors interested in history, who have then chosen to support that work with gifts focused on “Minnesota Experience” programming.
"The Giving Team" is frequently mentioned on-air and in the TPT magazine. What does your team do?
The Giving Team works with community members who would like to support the station with charitable gifts. These contributions may be given today, given over time or arranged as part of their estate. Contributions of all amounts are vital to ensure that TPT is able to bring dynamic and insightful programming to our communities. What is the difference between a major gift and a planned gift, and how do these contributions make a difference at TPT? A major gift is given today, while planned gifts are given in the future. In working with donors to give to TPT and the programs they love, our team helps provide the financial resources that fund the daily work of the station, carry out large-scale initiatives, fund special projects and sustain long-term programs. We really mean it when we say we could not do this work without donors like you. Those who make a planned gift support our work with future funding, ensuring our financial sustainability and continued mission-driven work.
