The Sutphen Corporation was established in 1890 with manufacturing locations in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Op- erating for 130 years, Sutphen is the oldest family owned fire apparatus manufactur- ing company in the world. In addition to building custom fire trucks, Sutphen East also operates as a service location repairing, servicing, or re- building any manufacturer’s fire apparatus. Sutphen East, moved to Pennsylvania after outgrow- ing their New York State loca- tion in late 2016. The move to Northeast Pennsylvania al- lowed the company to expand operations in order to meet growing demand for their fire trucks. Each truck is custom built to meet the specific needs of the fire department, com- munity, or customer ordering the fire apparatus. According to general man- ager Darryl Rhyne “The location in Sterling Business & Technology Park provides the infrastructure we need to expand operations and increase production. Our cus- tomers find it easier to travel to this facility for inspections or picking up their new trucks. Northeast Pennsylvania pro- vides the perfect combination of a talented workforce along with a strong network of local suppliers all in an easily acces- sible location.” The Sutphen Corporation is currently under the direction of Drew and Julie Sutphen, along with other family mem- bers in key operational roles. Sutphen East is the only loca- tion serving the East Coast with five other manufacturing facilities in Ohio. The Ohio plants specialize in aerial apparatus such as ladder or platform trucks. Sutphen East manufactures pumpers, tankers, and rescue trucks. For more information on the Sutphen Corporation or to see some really cool fire ap- paratus, visit Sutphen.com.
