Health and Fitness at HSDC - By David Howes

P hysical health is arguably one of the most important and vital aspects of human life. Your health and mind are what give you the normal functions within your body. Therefore, having a good relationship with your health is not only key to a longer life, but it is also optimal to obtaining a healthy living lifestyle within your younger years. Here at HSDC that’s a priority too and as a result there are many health and fitness facilities and opportunities for both students and staff members. To find out more, I spoke to Sport Head of Faculty Sam Game, who is a font of knowledge about the fitness based facilities at HSDC South Downs and the sports industry in general. Sam gave me some detail on the type of opportu- nities that are available to take part in and to use at HSDC South Downs. Sam stated at least five different facilities

that are located here, including a gym, fitness studio, and a sports hall, 5g (artificial turf) football pitches and a climbing wall that are all available for hire for not just students, but sport teams and general members of the public alike.

I also asked Sam about his thoughts on obtaining a healthy lifestyle and how vital exercise is for students. Sam stated that it is ‘important’ for people to stay physically active not just for their physical health, but for their ‘mental health’ as well. Therefore if you are intrigued about im - proving your lifestyle, not just on a phys - ical level, but also your mental health, then the fitness environment at HSDC South Downs is the perfect place for you. Find out more about how to access a number of these facilities on the next page.
