Team-building Review Topical

❖ Purpose: To help participants review technical material, especially many steps in a process.

❖ Time Required: 15 to 25 minutes.

❖ Size of Group: Unlimited, but participants should work in small groups of three to six. ❖ Materials Required: A poster-sized diagram of the various steps of the process being reviewed; Post-It Notes numbered to correspond to the number of parts; and a numbered list of the descriptions of each part’s function. ❖ The Exercise in Action: “Name that Part” is an exercise specifically designed to review a technical diagram for a truck air brake system, but Carol Young, project coordinator for SUNY Empire State College, believes the tactic could be used in any training of a detailed piece of equipment or a lengthy process. The class first reviews the diagram and functions of each part. Next, the class is divided into groups and each group is given a poster/diagram, Post-It Notes, and the list of functions. The groups are allowed five minutes to label each part with the numbered Post-It Notes corresponding to the function. Then each group moves to the next table to check that group’s diagram, while Young shows the correct answers on a transparency. The posters can later be hung in the participants’ workplaces as job aids.
