A lliance Members and Friends: November’s election matters — a lot. The people we elect will make decisions that directly affect Alaska’s economy, our businesses, our workforce and our ability to responsibly develop the resources that pay for schools, roads, pub- lic services and opportunities for Alaskans. For those of us in the support industry, these decisions aren’t theoretical. We see the conse- quences of good policy — and bad policy — in our businesses, our hiring, our investments and our communities. There is a very real choice ahead. Candidates who understand the importance of a strong private sector and responsible resource development can help Alaska grow. Candidates who want to make it harder, more expensive or more uncertain to produce Alas- ka’s oil, gas and minerals put jobs, investment and Alaska’s economic future at risk. That’s why we all need to pay attention. The Alliance does not tell our members how to vote. But we
stand how your ballot works. Alaska’s Nov. 3 General Election will use Ranked-Choice Voting for state and federal candidate races. That means your ballot is more than simply picking one name. You have the opportunity to rank candidates in order of preference. If your first-choice candidate is eliminated, your vote can move to your next-ranked candidate. The process continues in rounds until a candidate receives a majority. So before you head to the polls: Know the candidates. Know their positions. Know how Ranked-Choice Voting works. And know how you want to rank your ballot. Alaska has enormous opportu - nity ahead of us. But opportunity doesn’t develop itself. It takes investment, responsible policy, a strong workforce and elected lead - ers who understand that a healthy private sector is essential to a healthy Alaska. This election will help deter- mine what comes next. Make sure your voice is part of it.
