THE BEAUTIFUL MESSAGE OF EASTER HOW THE HOLIDAY REMINDS ME TO LIVE LIFE TO THE FULLEST

Easter is one of my very favorite times of the year. Christmas is wonderful for the nativity celebration it brings, and while I love spending time with family on Thanksgiving, Easter is special because it’s a holiday all about grace, redemption, and new beginnings. As a Christian, Easter is deeply meaningful for me. My family goes to New Bridge Community Church’s Easter and Good Friday services every year to show just how grateful we are for everything the Lord has done for us. Both of my oldest sons chose to be baptized during those services, too, which adds another layer of meaning to the holiday. There’s a kind of pageantry to those annual, public baptisms that I love: They really put faith and the meaning of Easter on display, and that reminds us that we’ve been given the gift of eternal life. Life and death have been on my mind a lot in the past few months ever since Kobe Bryant’s death made headlines at the end of January. When that happened, it seemed like people all over the world paused to think about their mortality and give thanks for their families. Personally, my faith gives me hope. I’m not afraid of death because I don’t really see it as an end. I see it as a new beginning, even though it’s sad.

Seeing those little buds reminds me that every day really is a new day

without any mistakes in it yet. I know mistakes are inevitable (I’ve made plenty of my own), but that’s where grace and forgiveness come in. When we give each other those things, it’s possible to live every day to the fullest. In my work at the clinic, I’m confronted with that reality every day. Everyone I work with has been to a dark place — they were injured in an accident, suffered an illness, or are battling the challenges of old age — but they’re all still putting one foot in front of the other, often literally! It’s inspiring to see them seize every day and live it to the fullest, and it’s also humbling to be a part of that. I’m there to cheer them on, pick them up when they fall, and give them endless amounts of grace when they struggle to stay positive. We all lose that faith in ourselves and our own recovery sometimes, but it’s always possible to start over and get it back. If you’ve been in to see me and my staff in the past but now find yourself alone and struggling to keep your chin up, know that you can always, always come back in for help. Even if you’re recovered from your injury, we have other services like massage therapy and fitness classes that can heal your body and mind. There’s nothing I want more than for you to join me in celebrating the spirit of Easter and living life to its fullest every day! – Dr. Jennifer Penrose

It’s very fitting that Easter comes in the spring when the whole world is coming back to life. There are beautiful signs of growth everywhere, from the bright green nubs of new needles on the pine trees to the tulips poking up through the damp earth in my neighbors’ gardens.
