The use of glass continues to increase with transparent qualities incorporated into many projects - flooring, internal walls, under floor cellars as well as furniture and integral features. Toughened glass that has been tested and certified provides builders and installers with complete peace of mind that the end users will be safe. The safety guarantees and reliability that toughened and laminated glass provide gives designers and planners more scope, particularly as glass is becoming the main material of choice for many. For processors, the desire of architects to create greater and more stunning concepts with glass, this continues to be a growing arena with huge potential. As a construction material, glass provides many benefits that continue to make it a popular choice for commercial installations, as well as contemporary residential buildings. Thanks to innovation in glass manufacturing, there are now many options available energy efficient fenestration, with special coatings and techniques that reduce glare in glass. Here is where the benefits of Low-E Glass come into their own. This type of glass improves natural lighting as well as the thermal performance of buildings that have glass facades. Low-E coatings will counter solar glare and limit ultraviolet light. Glass skyscrapers provide striking architecture on the skyline that is hard to match and which cannot be achieved with other materials in the same way. These beautiful structures provide environmentally friendly and energy efficient benefits which improve overall well being of the occupants.

With photographic drones so popular in corporate videos today they can also gather arial data on a future project and provide visual analytics of property or the ground on which a building will be constructed. There are so many options opening up. Robots could construct walls in disaster areas or in places that are not safe for humans. A whole new world awaits. In relation to the glass industry, as a material it retains its appeal within both the commercial and domestic sectors. Increasing daylight and improving well-being are now important aspects that architects and designers are incorporating into building design. Due to improved safety standards and the variety of glasses now available, glass has earned its reputation as a versatile product that will suit many housing concepts, and which can be used as a viable alternative to steel or timber in construction projects. A product that will bring excellent benefits to every day living. Structural glass balustrades provide a stunning option for any building with minimal or hidden fixings ensuring a gleaming finished look. This frameless, sleek option gives projects a modern feel and are a popular choice for incorporating into homes. As a product it can be sandblasted with patterns or logos and can be given a steady footing on staircases. Glass balustrades can also be used externally and are very low maintenance. As a product this makes it ideal for commercial projects such as walkways and balconies. This can add a really stylish appearance to any modern project. Glass stairs are often paired with frameless glass balustrades and they offer an ultra modern look in any property. As laminated glass can withstand heavy loads these types of stairways make an excellent alternative to traditional options and can really maximise the light.

CLIPPINGS AND MUSINGS - FEBRUARY - HELEN DUVAL

Stronger, taller, and more beautiful structures are in demand not just with designers and planners but also the end user. Using market leading materials like glass curtain walls and striking glass houses is now answering the call. With the speed of product development and new inventions always around the corner to ease our busy lives we could soon be looking at robotics taking the place of entire construction crews. The good news is they will still need human intervention. Glazing installation and construction have been one of the least digital industries, however increasingly we are seeing AI (artificial intelligence) and machine learning to deliver unparalleled options for the construction sector.

With so many tasks being repetitive, robotics will provide the right support without losing the skill of the worker. Robots, drones, and autonomous vehicles such as the HEGLA AGV are now part of the solution to getting projects completed but they will still need some human supervision. Getting the right automation is vital if consumer demands are to be met in an increasingly demanding sector. Bricklaying, loading and unloading, and haulage will no doubt, through the use of robots, also help to reduce work place injuries in dangerous working environments and they could easily start to redress the skill shortage issue.

Driverless vehicles, for example, can transport materials safely around a site.

QUICKSLIDE PARTNERS WITH MORLEY

GLASS TO ENHANCE PRODUCT OFFERING

Leading window and door manufacturer Quickslide has made the decision to put the ethos of ‘home grown’ at the heart of a new investment this year, as they announce a new partnership with local blinds supplier Morley Glass. The move will be of major interest to customers, as the decreased distance and an enhanced product offering equals shorter lead times and an improved turnaround. “Our new relationship with Morley Glass began back in December to ensure that we were ready to hit the ground running with orders in January” explained Managing Director Ben Weber. “When it comes to integral blinds, our customers are increasingly requesting wider variation in both colour and operating systems. We have taken on two of Morley’s core manual control products; the ‘C System’ which features a rotational cord and a cordless magnetic slider system, known as the ‘SV System’. Each of these are available in traditional, timeless colours including white, creams and greys, but for homeowners wanting to make more of a statement through their windows, the choice of bright primary colours provide a great alternative.” The slim control style of the Morley Glass devices makes them ideal for integrating blinds into any product across the comprehensive Quickslide range; a benefit Ben expects to attract new business over the coming months. Additionally, with less than ten miles between the two factory sites the move guarantees Quickslide a reduction in their carbon footprint – an aim which Ben intends to fulfil across the company’s entire supply chain: “Climate activism is so very poignant right now, and it is absolutely everyone’s responsibility to confront environmentally threatening issues. The proximity of Morley’s premises to us means that we can support the wider cause to be eco-friendly by having vehicles on the road for less time, and making more efficient journeys.”

A NEW WAY TO EASE FINANCIAL BUSINESS TENSIONS BY HELEN DUVAL

Interest can also be claimed on outstanding debts that were not paid within an agreed period, but that have subsequently been cleared. In terms of past projects, and current debts, the process remains the same but for future projects, Secure Trade Payments can provide the whole construction sector with better financial standards and improved business relations. The new system from Secure Trade Payments is now available which will undoubtedly minimise issues related to late or non payments and which may well take the industry by storm. Getting paid on projects is a significant issue for ‘sole trader’ or SME businesses. Where work is quoted against time, many can ill afford the time spent chasing money from previous jobs in order to fund the current or next project. The idea behind Secure Trade Payments is that it helps to solve future problems by providing a simple quote, funding and control solution. “Being paid is a significant issue for the construction industry, especially for smaller companies that suffer from cash flow issues within the supply chain. Our system solves the problem by providing a simple solution. Similar to an escrow account the platform interfaces between the trader and the client, providing standard terms and conditions and project control in order to allow the job to run smoothly.” Now this new fiscal option has been launched it will allow both jobs and businesses to run smoothly - call 0121 352 1226 to learn more. Stay tuned! NEW THINGS AFOOT Ivan Yardley, Senior Management at STP comments:

Drawing up credit control procedures is important as they ensure that customers can know what to expect regarding notification and the subsequent recovery process. Unless otherwise agreed, a payment is legally classed as late after 30 days. Other measures are now possible without having to wait to be paid. Negotiation is an integral part of the entire process and the longer the business relationship has existed then the easier this should be for people to put in place a solution that will work for both parties. Discussing customer’s individual situations is important, and trying to evaluate the reasons behind late payment has always been key. Currently, having a full grasp of the circumstances ensures that there are roads that can be followed to allow them to make suitable methods of payment or instalments. The new solution from Secure Trade Payments provides a simple, flexible option that will help to maintain a good business relationship and keep traders and SMEs financially secure. IT’S GOOD TO TALK

Evaluating business strategies is always a key focus, particularly at the start of a new year and every business will from time to time, encounter issues regarding late payments. Often, business owners will feel uncomfortable about the idea of confronting bad debts directly, particularly if this relates to a long-standing customer. Too firm an approach and there is a risk of losing a valued client. Then again, too soft, and the business relationship could be taken for granted with the debt not taken seriously enough by the customer. Late payments can cripple a business and yet a lot of companies shy away from taking legal action to avoid losing the customer. For most people avoiding the final legal step is always the preferred route. The sector has had its fair share of ups and downs and there are many who will undoubtedly have some horror stories, particularly from the dark days of recession.

For SME’s it literally can be a crushing experience with financial stress and worry overriding the business as a whole, especially for sole traders and installers who rely on subcontractors. Overdue payments can often be avoided however with a clear system in place similar that introduced by the Secure Trade Payments company. This is a new deposit and stage payment process that will seriously help to reduce risks. Currently, a clear set of terms and conditions of business lets everyone know where they stand, with many customers acknowledging that it gives safe passage in terms of any potential misunderstandings regarding payment. Simple contracts clearly communicate conditions for both parties to deliver on their respective sides of the deal. STAND AND DELIVER

REMOVE THE COST OF RECOVERY

Interest, costs and in some cases the cost of collecting a debt can be claimed under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts Interest Act. At the moment it is possible to claim statutory interest at 8% over base rate, along with £40 - £100 for each invoice, depending on the invoice value.

NEW YORK SETS NEW HEIGHTS THAT KEEP YOU ON THE EDGE

And the glistening beauty of it all is glass! Manhattan’s West Side is making a bold new statement with the conversion of Hudson Yards into the latest hot spot for visitors. This houses a monumental public art installation that fundamentally incorporates a copper and glass art installation. Called The Vessel, 2,500 steps with 80 landings, spread out with connecting platforms on a 15 storey circular staircase that all lead to, ….well, the top. This striking design already is popular and will become more so as the centrepiece of a new park - transforming the previous construction crater into one of the largest real estate developments in the US. This huge piece of art has been made from glass, concrete and copper and was created by one of Britain’s most significant designers, Thomas Heatherwick. His previous creations include the 2012 Olympic Cauldron as well as London's new Routemaster double-decker buses. The idea of living and working at height is now ‘the norm’ in so many cities, which seem to appear more aesthetically attractive with every new glass clad landmark that is created. Perhaps one of the more brazen developments, which is due to open any minute now, is the Edge - a new contemporary skyscraper viewing platform set again in New York’s Hudson Yards. Healthy and extreme seem to have been brought together in this Manhattan development spot which includes houses hotels, apartments and bars at a high rise level. The Edge is stated as being the tallest man- made outdoor viewing platform in the Western Hemisphere at 1,131 ft. high.

This type of design is exciting for companies too, who grasp the attraction and publicity gained from being ‘part of’ this new developing glazed construction. WarnerMedia and KKR are just a couple of tenants already in place. The glass floored observation deck will be accessible via the shops and restaurants located on the 4th floor of Hudson Yards. There is a tunnel here that will take visitors to two elevators, one of which sits on top of the other. Once there, the panoramic views of New York are available for all to see from above, around and below and all thanks to the skill and craftsmanship of those in the processing, manufacturing and machinery sides of the glass industry.

Taking things to ‘The Edge’ seems to be the theme behind this bold glass and concrete design which extends 80 feet out from the south and east sides of the 100th floor of 30 Hudson Yards. Increasingly architects are looking to push the boundaries and the Edge does not fail here, with a 200 sq. ft glass bottom incorporated into its structure. Absolutely nothing restricts the views with 79 x 9 ft. glass panels in position, each of which weighs 1,400 pounds and this streamlined glass wall has been angled outwards by 6.6 degrees. This new observation tower has been designed to dare, with the glass panels available to lean against to be able to view Manhattan below.

As a bustling city, few can beat New York. The epitome of skyscraper living can be overwhelming to see but the designs have mostly been world leading. They set benchmarks for others. Think Chrysler Building or the Woolworth Building which still draw the crowds.

Shelforce has established a market-leading proposition, complete with a clear audit trail to give customers complete traceability and peace of mind. Howard Trotter, Business Manager at Shelforce said: “The process changes that Rapierstar have helped us to implement have enabled us to further improve manufacturing efficiency and optimise quality, while at the same time multi-skilling workers so they are able to work on any part of the production line as required. This ensures we remain competitive in the market with a range of windows and doors that offer significant quality benefits, supported by technical documentation and test data that satisfies client audit requirements, which our loyal and growing customer base really values.” Mark Calpin, Technical Sales Consultant at Rapierstar added: “We’re delighted that Shelforce have chosen Rapierstar as their supply chain partner for fasteners and we look forward to supporting them wherever we can as they develop and grow. Bringing fresh insights to their fastener usage, our technical support is designed to help Shelforce maintain its reputation for consistently high quality finished products, whilst at the same time delivering important productivity benefits.”

As the window and door sector’s specialist fastener supplier, Rapierstar is uniquely positioned to support manufacturers like Shelforce to implement a fastener strategy that ticks all the boxes. In addition to the corrosion resistance benefits that austenitic stainless steel fasteners offer, the products used by Shelforce are also all CE marked and every batch is tested against numerous performance criteria at Rapierstar’s in-house test centre to maintain quality consistency. Rapierstar is also supporting Shelforce’s development of its aluminium window and door range, including a bi-fold door option. Operating from its 100,000 sq. ft. warehouse and distribution centre near Macclesfield, Rapierstar works with customers across the UK and Ireland to provide a complete product range, competitively priced and delivered next day. The Rapierstar service is backed by industry-leading technical support team with a collective experience in the fastener market of more than 150 years, helping hardware and systems manufacturers and fabricators to deliver safe, secure, high performing finished products.

SHELFORCE BOOSTS MANUFACTURING EFFICIENCY AND QUALITY ASSURANCE WITH RAPIERSTAR

Fastener specialist Rapierstar is providing extensive support to window and door manufacturer Shelforce to streamline fastener usage and ensure its workforce is fully supported to achieve the highest quality finished products. The Birmingham-based manufacturer, which specialises in the supply of windows and doors to the social housing, new build and schools sectors, is already benefiting from a 25% reduction in the number of different types of fasteners it uses following a Rapierstar fastener ‘Health Check’. This identified instances where a single fastener type and size could be used for multiple purposes throughout the assembly, a move that has reduced fastener stockholding, made ordering easier and simplified manufacture.

Given the unique nature of Shelforce in its provision of employment for people living with a wide range of disabilities, its production lines are configured in a way that enables operatives to clearly identify which fasteners to use for each part of the window or door’s construction. Here, Rapierstar has helped by not only reducing the number of different types of fasteners being used – and thus the scope for selecting the wrong one – but also by producing colour-coded charts for every workstation so fabricators have a quick and easy-to-use fastener reference guide in front of them at all times. Rapierstar is supplying Shelforce with an all- austenitic stainless steel suite of fasteners for the manufacture of PVCu windows and doors using Eurocell systems. By correctly applying these premium quality fasteners, which are designed to offer the highest level of resistance to corrosion,

FIRE-RATING FIRST FOR MORLEY GLASS & GLAZING

MORLEY SPONSORS

NINTH ANNUAL CHARITY EVENT Leeds-based Morley Glass & Glazing is once again saying ‘cheers’ to charity as it prepares to sponsor the ninth annual North Leeds Charity Beer Festival. Organised by The Rotary Club of Roundhay, and returning to the North Leeds Cricket Club, this year’s festival will encourage visitors to ‘Drink Yorkshire’ while raising money to fund worthwhile projects both locally, nationally and even worldwide. The two-day event will feature the very best Yorkshire has to offer including 36 beers from nine Yorkshire breweries as well as a variety of Artful Pour gins, distilled in the heart of Yorkshire. Prosecco will also be on the menu, with additional drinks available to purchase. Sticking with the Yorkshire theme, locally sourced Setchfield pork pies served with peas will be served from the kitchen at all sessions of the beer festival, alongside homemade samosas. And since no festival would be complete without a little music, the festival is pleased to offer a full line- up of local Leeds talents to entertain visitors, with the full programme to be revealed closer to the date. The festival will be open from 6pm on Friday 3rd and from 12pm on Saturday 4th April. On Saturday everyone is invited to the fun family afternoon, with free entry for children accompanied by a paying adult, a dedicated play area for children and child friendly snack bags. Ian Short, managing director of Morley Glass says: “We are delighted to be able to sponsor the 9th Annual North Leeds Charity Beer Festival.

This is exactly the type of initiative we like to be involved with as it perfectly reflects our ethos of giving back to local communities. “I personally will be rolling up my sleeves and helping alongside the Rotarians and I am very much looking forward to the event. I wish NLBF and the Rotary Club of Roundhay every success.” Since it began in 2012, the North Leeds Charity Beer Festival has raised almost £50k, enabling Roundhay Rotary to support charity projects in the local community and further afield. These have included installed defibrillators outside local health centres, sponsoring Rotary Youth Leadership Awards and providing help and equipment to those affected by natural disasters around the world.

Morley Glass & Glazing has become the first company in the UK to achieve a fire-rating accreditation for its insulated glass units with integral blinds inside. The fire-rated Uni-Blinds sealed units with ScreenLine integral blinds inside now comply with the performance criteria set out in the EU 305/2011 Construction Products Regulation, and have been independently verified by TUV UK, a UKAS accredited third party testing house. Ian Short, managing director of Morley Glass & Glazing said: “There are more than 300 fire-related deaths and more than 200,000 fire alarms raised in the UK every year. With recent high-profile incidents such as Grenfell Tower, it’s more important than ever that the correct building materials are specified. Our sealed units with integral blinds inside are manufactured in the UK using fire-glass from Pyroguard and can deliver 30 to 120 minutes integrity and insulation fire-resistance.”

This latest innovation from Morley Glass & Glazing gives architects and specifiers design flexibility and peace of mind that glass partitions, facades, doors and windows that require fire protection, can now feature integral or “between glass” blinds, without compromising safety or aesthetics. Used widely in schools, hospitals, hotels, offices and other commercial buildings, as well as multi-let residential premises, the fire-rated integral blinds can be manufactured in sealed units up to 2m2 in size. The integral blinds are available in a choice of manual or motorised control options, and are popular due to the fact that the blinds, which are housed between the panes of glass, are protected from damage, remain clean and hygienic, are low maintenance, provide privacy and shading, and are available in a wide range of colours.

GREENTEQ OVAL PULL HANDLES ADD A TOUCH OF STYLE

THE PRIDE OF WEST WALES – VICTORIAN SLIDERS NAMED BEST LARGE MANUFACTURER It’s always been a proud Welsh business – and Victorian Sliders, Europe’s biggest sash window manufacturer, has got its 15th anniversary year off to a flying start by winning a prestigious regional business award. The Ammanford-based firm was named best large manufacturer at the West Wales Business Awards, an annual event that exists to honour the area’s most passionate, innovative and exceptional companies. At a glamorous black-tie gala dinner on January the 24th, attended by key members of the Victorian Sliders team including Chief Executive Scot Starkey, the award was presented in front of an audience of local VIPs.

“It’s incredibly rewarding to be recognised by the region that’s given so much, and consistently supported us as we’ve grown to become the biggest sash window manufacturer in Europe. “I want to take this opportunity to thank our dedicated staff, and our fantastic customers, without whom none of this would’ve been possible.” This isn’t the Ammanford firm’s only cause for celebration, however. It’s also been named a finalist in the Manufacturing Business of the Year category at the Swansea Bay Business Awards. Winners will be announced on Friday 6th March at a glamorous ceremony held at Swansea’s Brangwyn Hall.

Award winning hardware specialist VBH has expanded the greenteQ Coastline range of stainless steel pull handles with the addition of two new Oval profile designs. The stylish new Oval products offer an attractive alternative to the standard circular profile pulls that are already very popular on contemporary entrance doors. VBH advise that Oval pulls are manufactured from hard wearing grade 304 austenitic brushed stainless steel and, as with all the products in the Coastline range, benefit from VBH’s 25 Year Coastline guarantee. There are Straight and Offset options. As its name suggests, the Offset version’s bar is mounted on angled legs to offset the pull handle by 72mm from the fixing points.

presented a number of proposed designs to a sample set of fabrication and installation companies last year. “The overwhelming opinion was that, whilst they wanted something different to the traditional tube, they still preferred a pull that had a soft feel and appearance. The new bars certainly fit that bill as the oval tube is very comfortable to hold, and looks very stylish. Initial sales figures are backing that up.”

“What a way to kick off our 15th birthday year!”, comments Group Managing Director Andy Jones.

The pulls are available in four lengths and can be fitted on their own or back to back.

HEGLA INTRODUCES THE NEXT GENERATION IN EDGE DELETION

RapidLam Shape: More Scope To Shape The Future.

For many years edge deletion on machinery in the glass industry has been in its current format. Previously standard soft-coated glasses were mixed with hard coated products, the switch to soft coated has been market led and is now probably at its maximum. However other market demands have changed there are now new expectations for processors to consider, for example protective coverings or film on high performance products. Steve Goble, Managing Director, HEGLA UK discusses the potential of the next generation edge deletion options from the leading system supplier. “It has always been important to remove debris from the Edge Deletion Process and has as fast a process as possible, standard soft-coated products simply did not create the problems that we are seeing today with vastly improved coatings, multiple silver layers and surface protection before the toughening process. toughenable products that are coated with different protective membranes/polymers which must be ground through to edge delete during the glass cutting process. By its very nature this has become a problematic issue for processors across the UK. Today edge deletion requires the removal of many more types of protective coatings during production. The amount of debris created by this is enormous by comparison to a few years ago and has slowed Over the last few years glass suppliers have developed a broad range of high performance

down the process, machines that were not designed for these coatings. With a focus on marketled needs and the requirements for processors to supply larger volumes of glass in multiple coated formats, HEGLA recognised the need to address the issue. Consequently, a new generation of machinery designed specifically to combat issues associated with debris caused by edge deletion has been developed. Steve continues, “Physically the commercial market has been transformed, while glass performance requirements are now unrecognisable to even 10 years ago. Having identified the issue, the HEGLA team has designed a new solution that is a complete change to system that has served the industry for ca 25 years with single edge deletion as well as Hegla’s unique Twin Edge Deletion. Technical redevelopments and alterations to software have been quite considerable to improve the edge deletion process to the point where standard soft coated glass can now be edge deleted faster than before as well as coping with the new products. The UK market is now recognising the problems that older systems generate, with leading glass processors now looking at the next generation edge deletion machinery that can cope with multi coatings and surface protection. For more information on the HEGLA Group’s range of automated systems please call Steve Goble or Paul Gibbs on 01908 261933.

The new recruits are testimony to the rapid expansion that GQA has enjoyed over the past twelve months. Chief Executive Officer, Mick Clayton, comments:

“I am very pleased to welcome our three new recruits in the technical and compliance teams. The new staff will help to ensure that GQA is robust and future-proof. I fully expect that we will continue to grow over the coming months with the continued expansion of our approved centre network, and our continuing commitment to providing industry relevant qualifications.” GQA is also a major supporter of practical training for the industry to underpin the many hands-on roles that employees undertake and the new technical team members have been directly involved using their experience and knowledge of the Fenestration Industry in helping to develop the new Building Our Skills practical training academy.

EDGETECH’S SUPER SPACER BRINGS SUSTAINABILITY TO ONE OF THE WORLD’S TALLEST WOODEN BUILDINGS

Edgetech’s world-renowned Super Spacer has helped make one of the world’s tallest wooden buildings a beacon of energy efficiency. HoHo Wien, located in Vienna’s 22nd district, is a modern marvel of timber and state-of-the art technology. The 82-metre, 24-storey structure was the vision of architects Rudiger Lainer + Partner, and designed to offer a visually distinctive and outstandingly sustainable space for hotels, restaurants, offices, apartments and more. The building’s 1,100 triple-glazed units all incorporate Edgetech’s Super Spacer T-Spacer, allowing them to achieve U values of just 0.5, and helping the building save 2,800 tonnes in carbon emissions compared to a more conventional structure of the same size. The building itself is a wood-concrete hybrid construction. The interior consists of a solid reinforced concrete core containing staircases,

elevators and supply shafts, and prefabricated solid wood structures are arranged around it. The wall and ceiling elements made of spruce wood remain unclad to retain their natural character. Its exceptional environmental performance has seen the project receive two highly prestigious accolades – a gold LEED certification, and a gold award from the Austrian Sustainable Building Council. “We were delighted to be involved in such a fantastic, forward-thinking project”, comments Edgetech Managing Director Chris Alderson. “Pair Super Spacer’s exceptional energy efficiency with an ingeniously-designed, sustainably-constructed landmark like HoHo Wien, and you’ve got a template for the architecture of the future. “We hope to work on many more developments as ground-breaking and ambitious as this one in years to come!” For more information please call +44(0)476639931 or visit www.edgetechig.co.uk

BON ACCORD TAKES ON A TRIO OF NEW PRODUCTS

LINIAR AND QUANEX TAKE CENTRE STAGE AT THE NYSE 16 January 2020 was a day to remember for Liniar and Avantek Machinery's Group Managing Director Martin Thurley. That particular Thursday marked the occasion Martin visited the New York Stock Exchange to take part in the ceremonial ringing of the bell to signal the start of trading.

Composite door manufacturer Apeer is enjoying success in the north of the United Kingdom as new and existing installer partners across Scotland broaden their product ranges. The company has developed a particularly exceptional relationship with Aberdeen based Bon Accord Glass over recent years, who have recently added three new products to their showroom. Commercial Manager Bryan Kinghorn explained the reason for expanding their Apeer offering: “Quite simply, they are the best doors on the market, and put us in a strong position with customers” he said. “We sell a high number of composite doors and have a great relationship with Mark and Alex at Apeer, so after parting ways with another supplier, decided to allocate the free space to the Lumi sliding patio door.” In addition, Bon Accord also now showcases a new composite door and a Lumi

window. “We have watched the trends and noticed that sliding doors are coming back – taking over the demand for PVC bi-folds. Lumi, too, is growing and we think that over time the window products will be equally popular.” Bon Accord is in receipt of weekly deliveries of Apeer and Lumi products, not surprising given the innovative ways they are displayed in the showroom. “The sliding patio door is actually the entrance to one of our internal offices, so customers can glean a true picture of how the doors look in a real life setting. They’re a simple way to unite indoors and outdoors, and allow for masses of natural light to pour in.” Bryan finished “We definitely think we’ve taken the product on at the right time of year. As customers start thinking about home improvements for the spring and summer, we have trusted solutions for all areas of their home.”

The reason for the momentous occasion was that January 2020 marked parent company Quanex's 55th year being listed on the prestigious New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: NX).

Martin joined the Executive Management Team of Quanex Building Products to ring the bell as one, cohesive team. The day was also special for George Wilson, recently announced as succeeding Bill Griffiths as Quanex President and CEO.

Of the events in the Big Apple, Martin commented:

“It was a real privilege to represent the fantastic teams we have here at Liniar and Avantek – overall, a very special day, both personally and professionally!”

door is available in a wide range of coloured and woodgrained foils. A further option that has proved popular with homeowners is the clever and durable Ascena insect screen that is also available as part of the package offered to installers. Doors may be ordered through Panoramic’s online ordering system, with prices from £395 plus VAT per leaf fully glazed (2.2m x 1m) for PVC-U doors; £540 + VAT per leaf for aluminium versions and £640 plus VAT per leaf for aluminium/wood. For installers, all versions of Panoramic doors are supplied fully glazed and are easier than conventional bi-folding doors to transport and handle, whilst also being simpler to install due to the design, with leaves simply slotted individually into the custom tracks. PANORAMIC OPENS SALES OF ITS FULL RANGE OF SWING AND SLIDE DOORS TO RETAIL INSTALLERS

Panoramic Doors has revealed plans to open sales and distribution of its full range of Swing and Slide doors through a UK-wide network of Approved Installers. Commencing immediately for the key spring sales period, all versions of Panoramic’s popular alternative to the ubiquitous bi-folding door will be available to retail installers, supported by marketing support, online ordering and a 10-day delivery cycle. For the first time in the UK, all versions of the Panoramic Door – which allows the uninterrupted openings of bi-folds but through a system of individual sliding panels that offer greater flexibility – will be available, including the original in aluminium, an aluminium and timber version and the PVC-U Panoramic door that the company introduced last year in the UK. Panoramic Doors have proved popular with homeowners seeking the unrestricted openings allowed by bi-folds, but who have also recognised the restrictions of imposed by the hinged panels. Panoramic uses a system of individual panels that slide independently along a track. This allows the door to be fully opened, or in a combination of open and closed panels according to homeowner preference.

design through which panels are interlocked when closed.

This design, combined with Panoramic’s patented hardware and operating system, provide security to PAS24. The unusual operating mechanism also enables the doors to be opened with minimal intrusion either side of the track, allowing furniture to be placed close to the doors and installation in more confined areas. All locks and hinges are hidden inside the panels and frame, to offer clean and elegant lines when open or closed. All products are CE and CMS marked. Approved Installers will enjoy a showroom package that includes product together with digital and printed retail literature, along side excellent social media support. Panoramic Doors are supplied fully glazed and ready to install, with a guaranteed 10-day turnaround and comprehensive technical assistance for installers, including full installation training, will also be provided. Aluminium versions of the Panoramic Door are available in three standard colours and more than 200 RAL options. The aluminium/timber door is available in combinations of the aluminium colour options for the external frame and White Oak and Mahogany on the inside. The PVC-U Panoramic

Despite this flexibility, weather protection and security are assured by the tongue and groove

NEW AGB ARTECH TILT & TURN SYSTEM FROM VBH

Hardware specialist VBH (GB) has added a new tilt & turn system from Italian hardware manufacturer, AGB, to its extensive range of third-party branded products. ArTech gear is protected by the Activeage finish that exceeds 2,000 hours neutral salt spray testing to EN ISO 9227, making it ideal for coastal regions and areas with higher levels of pollution. The ArTech system has been developed for fabrication lines of all sizes, and comes with various hinge options including surface fit, rebated, jigless and the ‘Plana’ concealed hinge system. The gear is connected via either a ‘Crop & Punch’ connection system, or can be easily assembled on a manual line by utilising ‘Crop & Cover’ connector plates, which enable manual cropping of the hardware without the need to punch a hole in the cropped faceplate.

QUICKSLIDE UPGRADES TRANSPORT FLEET AS PART OF £2,000,000 INVESTMENT

Quickslide has announced a significant number of new additions to its transport fleet, a move that represents the latest phase of planned investments for 2020 as the fabricator gears up for continued growth and looks to further improve its service offering. The new vehicles, which represent an investment of £280,000, include two DAF rigid trucks that will be used for nationwide deliveries; a trio of VW Crafter High Roof vans that will be dedicated to deliveries, installations and services; plus a Mitsubishi L200 double cab pickup that will be available to account managers to visit clients across the UK. The addition of Quickslide’s new trucks, vans and pickup, which will be liveried in the company’s distinctive branding, will make a positive impact on the overall running costs of the Brighouse based manufacturer’s transport fleet, which now includes six 18-tonne trucks, plus 12 cars and vans. Quickslide’s Managing Director, Ben Weber, commented: “Quickslide has enjoyed nine years of continuous growth, and thanks to continuing

demand for our market leading products, including our exciting next generation vertical slider, Legacy, we have invested £2m for 2020, which will cover onsite improvements and new machinery as well as continual developments to our service offering. “The new trucks and vans are a vital part of that service, both in terms of reliability and efficiency, but also with regards to quality control as we transport our products nationwide. All of our vehicles are covered in Quickslide branding of course, and by acting as mobile billboards, it was vital that all this branding was on point and was able to communicate exactly what we do and who we are to our customers and members of the public. “While the majority of the fleet is devoted to the transportation of our products, the new L200 pickup has been dedicated to the sales team,” continued Ben. “We have worked extremely hard to create an enviable reputation for our customer service, and this is one way in which we can demonstrate a more personal approach, as well as a better understanding of our customers’ environments and their specific requirements.”

Standard and PAS24 security configurations are available, ensuring Document Q compliance. Adjustable Anti- Burglar cams are supplied as standard too, acting as a compression point on standard windows or security mushroom cams when paired with a security striker. Gearboxes on most tilt and turn systems are clamped to the drive gear faceplate, but ArTech’s is attached using concealed screw fixings for a more attractive linear design. Allan Price at VBH comments: “The ArTech system gives fabricators and installers a perfect ‘fit and forget’ solution for window and door installations. It’s also covered under VBH’s unique Q-secure security and corrosion guarantee, which is free to join and includes cover of up to £3,250 for windows, residential doors and folding patios.”
