The alternative marketing course was a new way of advertising, doing a campaign, reaching your consumer and spending a reasonable budget on publicity. We learned how to use digital media long before it became the trend it is these days. That is when I learned Egade was always ahead of other schools. “The second thing was a project where we had to create a whole company. That helped me understand how important it is to ‘have it all’. Let me explain what I mean by that. We study for a career thinking we will focus on a specific department, we study for a master’s degree thinking we need a speciality, but actually putting together a model that includes every aspect of a business – from finance to marketing and from procurement to sales – gives you perspective that will broaden the strategy of any company. That is when I realised I had chosen well because not every programme can push you to do that kind of project. “The third aspect worth highlighting is the people I studied with. They were all professionals with experience in big companies who contributed a lot with their input and expertise to complete the programme and make it what it is.” Can you give an example of a lesson learnt during your programme that you have applied to your current role and workplace? understand your customer. I work in a department where my customer can be top management or a business unit, a corporate department, a peer, an NGO, students, or society at large. I learned to think quickly and understand the needs of each and then to focus on the right solution in the right way, emphasising the important aspects of a strategy “Always know your audience. You can’t sell something if you do not
has a real and positive impact in society and the environment and I get to help save the world. “Leading a strategy where I get to take the company to net zero carbon emissions by 2050 is not easy. I cannot push for initiatives just because they will help us reach our goals. That is where the programme has made a difference. I see things from a holistic point of view so I can push for strategies that make sense for everyone, making sure they have social, economic and environmental benefits.” What are the next steps on your career journey? “I have big plans: I hope to become chief strategy officer some day. I still need to learn things; every day is an adventure. I have great leaders from whom I learn new things all the time. I try to absorb everything I can for the future. I have always believed you require five pillars in your life for balance: family, friends, education, work and religion. I have done my part in every one of them, so now it’s time to dream big.”
