1958 George Wastila lives near his sons, Michael and Derek, and enjoys time with his six grandkids. They are all doing well. 1964 Julianne Christopherson Riemenschneider has begun volunteering with Interfaith Caregivers as a driver for people who need rides for appointments, groceries, etc. 1965 Sig Sandstrom is a world deadlift champion and in June of 2021, at the age of 82, lifted 270 in a category of 180- 184. He is also learning to play the accordion. 1968 Harold "Hal" Mattson, a past exalted ruler, has been elected a life member of Mission Viejo-Saddleback Valley Elks Lodge No. 2444. In addition, he was recognized by the Elks National Foundation at its Gold Charity giving level. 1969 Robert Koch is retired from his position at ConAgra Foods and lives in Bluffton, Indiana. 1970 Arnold Shore lives in Bardonia, New York, with his wife, Rhoda. He is a semi-retired CPA and is playing more golf now that he has time. When he is not golfing, he is traveling and hanging around with his daughter, Staci, son in-law, Joe, and his three grandchildren.
David Osterlund, Ph.D., ’58 recently published his book, “The Anuak Legacy,” about his time with the Anuak people in Ethiopia studying their music and culture.
George "Bud" Brand commemorated the 2021 holiday season by volunteering as a Red Kettle Bell Ringer for The Salvation Army for the 25th year. Tony Coda is a senior resource consultant for Northern Industrial Resources, Inc. Duane Lahti and Barbara Maki Lahti ’73 developed the Oulu Cultural & Heritage Center, a collection of historic Finnish buildings and artifacts. They teach summer school sessions on local history, environmental issues, ethnic cultures, arts and crafts, and are open to the public during the summer. Tony Iacone was inducted into St. James High School's (Pennsylvania) Wall of Honor in September. 1971 Bill Meier returned to Texas with his wife Donna after spending eight years in northern Michigan. They now live in Fort Worth where they are enjoying their retirement. Lon Blakey and Carol Slanovich Blakey ’63 celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary this year. After years of retirement and extensive traveling, Carol continues to quilt, and Lon is still canoeing. 1972 Richard Reiten is now retired and lives in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. Warren Mann and Judy Paul Mann ’72 met during freshman orientation in 1968. This year they celebrated 50 years of marriage as well as 50 years as UWS alumni.
Joe Reasbeck ’68 was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He was also honored as an Outstanding American, one of only three individuals to receive this distinction since 1997.
