and spend $5.00 on gasoline, I say you are a heathen. The ChuTch of God would be a g reat deal b etter off if it would have a house cleaning. I would ra th e r have a congregation of fifty sacrificial Christian men and women th an five hundred who are hanging on by th eir finger tips and th ink ing they will get to Heaven th a t way. If every man and woman who call themselves Christians would live a life of sacri fice, then the church would be a m ighty channel of power in th is world. The a lta r is m eant for sacrifice. I call you back to th e fam ily altar, to th e a lta r of th e church, to the a lta r of sacrifice. “And he builded an a ltar THERE .”

flower, or a tree. You cannot have society w ithout organization. An editor recently, trying to find an illu stration of th e progress of modern civilization, cited th e case of a farm er in Nebraska who owned an airship. Afflicted w ith toothache, he stepped in to th e airship and in a few m inutes was in th e nearest town 40 miles away, where the den tist extracted th e aching molar, painlessly, and th e farm er was soon home. B u t I do not th in k th a t is an evi dence of civilization. We are simply sw inging around th e circle, and going m ighty fast too. Civilization rests, primarily, on sp iritu al things. A man who does no t stand by religion and by th e church is a tra ito r to his country, though he go to w ar a thousand times. God has never relinquished His scepter and He never will. The judgm ent which He has pronounced upon other nations He will pronounce upon the United States unless conditions change. Do not m isunderstand me. When I say “ church” I mean a real church-HS an assembly of people, a p a rt of the body of Jesus Christ, gath ering togeth er for worship every week, and if pos sible, twice on Sunday instead of once. X do not mean any of these modern vagaries which are posing as churches, such as a so-called church which was founded recently in th e Hotel Astor. in th e city of New York, known as “The F irs t Church of Animal R igh ts”:—by which I suppose they mean th a t from th is tim e forth, dogs, cats, snakes, rats, mice, etc., m ust he allowed to go on unhindered in thè pu rsu it of life, liberty and happiness. The A lta r of Sacrifice In the th ird place— we must save not only th e fam ily altar, and th e a lta r of th e church, h u t th e a lta r of sacrifice. If you come to church on Sunday, drop a nickel in the basket and then go out
