sentences. His papers and letters show ed th at he was a skilled designer in gold and silverware enroute from Chicago un der engagement _to one of our oldest jewelry manufacturing concerns, the change being necessary on account of his health. He 'h a d become very ill on th e train and some crook had brought him to a hotel, doped him, and robbed him of everything of value. He was un conscious until the next morning, when he discovered his watch and clothing missing, his money and many valuable unset diamonds and rubies gone. He staggered downstairs (no one stirring at th a t early hour) and started to find the station in order to locate his trunk; but no trace of it could be found. He had no check to identify it. He tried to retrace his steps, but couldn’t remember the way and fell, fainting at the door. Then we began our work. A room was secur ed, one volunteered to act as nurse, an other to trace the hotel and notify the police, and for four days we managed to keep him from .injuring himself. The hotel was locat'ed, the trunk traced, th e concern was notified, and from crime and despair, we now have the joy of seeing a brigh t restored lad beginning, as he- puts it, “all over again” with Christ as pilot and the Word of God a sure and safe guide to lead him to the city which hath foundations whose maker and build er is God where thieves cannot break in and steal. In th e Highways The crowd was exceptionally large one evening as we spoke from the charts, and standing directly in front of the speaker was a man who would attract attention anywhere, he was so big and strong and young and handsome. His companion, another strapping fellow, tried to draw him away, but w ith eyes fixed on the speaker, he stood for over an hour and in spite of all the efforts of his chum, he asked for an interview and till almost midnight he poured out a story which sounded like a page from A rabian Nights. Back of a real h eart hunger to get to God and begin all over again were a m other’s prayers and a de term ination to “let go and let God” from th a t moment. “Wandering far from home, God with a love untold Ever He calls to you, Come back to the Saviour’s fold.” Another striking case was th at of a sailor lad picked up on Main S treet about three months ago and brought to Biola Hall. He had been discharged, had spent

all, and-began to be in want. L ast night he told us th at he had ju st accepted the position as principal of a large Southern California school a t a salary running into the thousands, and we could not help but contrast this finely dressed, well- groomed man with th e dull despairing expression and dejected attitude of my sailor lad of only three months ago, and could bu t exclaim “W hat h ath God wrought!”

BIBLE WOMEN’S WORK Mrs. Lyman Stew art, Supt.

FTER opening class with the usual little season of prayer, the teacher said, ‘‘Suppose we have a little testimony meet ing before our lesson today.”

To her surprise two women almost im mediately made confessions of sin in their lives, one, especially, manifesting th a t real sorrow th a t works repentance. While the sin was past repair, when she saw th a t it was under the blood and that her Lord had borne the judgment for her, the tears came thick and fast, as she said, “It’s most too good to be true and, oh, such a burden is lifted!” U nsettled by th e Cults A visitor in one of our classes was ob served to pay unusual attention, and at the close of the lesson made her way quickly to th e teacher, inquiring if she m ight have a few questions answered, saying, “This lesson was meant for me, and I may not be able to attend another one.” It developed th a t while she was saved, yet the last few years she had be come very unsettled and unhappy be cause of false cults, and hardly knew where she did stand. The friend who brought her to class said afterwards, “I have been praying for a year th a t sh e' would come down here and get in touch with our class, but never realized th§t one lesson and one talk would accomplish so much. She will retu rn home a chang ed woman, her feet planted on the solid rock, and she will be a power in her home and among her friends.” The teacher replied: “P rayer did it. There is' a helping together in prayer, you know.” God’s Marvelous Leading At the Close of a Bible lesson recently, the teacher saw a stranger making her way out rath er hurriedly, and felt impel led to rush after her. After a word of greeting and an invitation to return again, the teacher said: “I wonder if
