cept Christ,—as one put it, “last chance” people. Over one hundred fine Christian young people offered themselves freely and fully to go anywhere and do any thing the Lord might direct, and many happy parents are rejoicing. Dr. Oliver filled an engagement in Al toona, Pennsylvania, during the early part of August, and then took p art in the Flagstaff, Arizona, Conference be fore returning to Los Angeles where he will fill the pulpit of the Church of the Open. Door during the month of Sep tember. ^¡4- Ms Ms Dr. A. C. Dixon Dr. Dixon in a recent le tte r tells of th e wonderful blessing attending th e session of the Montrose Bible Confer ence, at Montrose, Pennsylvania, where he is one of th e speakers. He will occupy th e pulpit of the Church of the Open Door morning and evening every Sunday in October, ta k ing as his theme for th e entire month “ The Cross of Christ and Its Glory, Here and H ereafter.” THE FARE WITHIN IS GOOD Some years since th e “Zion’s Advo cate” said w ith perfect justice “When men su rrend er th eir faith in th e super n atu ra l and in th e fundam ental doc trin e s of the Christian Church, and can no longer preach and teach them , why do they not, like honorable gentlemen, resign the responsibilities which they have accepted, and go out and estab lish a platform of th e ir own? If they have the tru th why do they not show th eir confidence in th e ir teachings by organizing th eir own in stitu tion s in stead of continuing to receive support from those whose beliefs they have solemnly promised to espouse? I th ink th a t common honor and honesty would lead them to such a step.” Will they tak e it? No! The overwhelming m a jo rity . of them have decided th a t since the fare w ithin is good, and, as yet, even special honors are not denied them in th a t fellowship, they will re main to enjoy both. NEGLECTED DISTRICTS IN CALIFORNIA

From statistics recently compiled by an evangelist who has been m inistering to the people in some of th e unevangel ized p arts of California, it appears th a t in fourteen counties in th e N orthern p art of th e state th ere is on an average of bu t one church to each 805 square miles of territo ry . One county has one church to each 2500 population; ano th er county w ith 5500 population h as th ree churches; another w ith 22,000 population has 563 church members. In one of the counties famous for its lumber camps, w ith a population of 40, 000, th e re are 18 churches, b u t 11 of these have been abandoned, being w ith out preachers or support of any kind. Here is a practical illu stration ■ of the need of m issionary effort in our own land, for th is condition of affairs can be duplicated in many other sections of th e country. The explanation of prayer is found ,in the fact th a t all tru e prayer is, and must be, in the Holy Ghost. (Jude 20 . ) When prayer Is made in th e medium of the Spirit, the compelling force is th e Spirit Himself. He makes intercession with Christ the intercessor above; and He, recognizing it .to be th e will -of God in line w ith the fulfillment of His purpose, makes intercession w ith th e F ath e r. (Rom. 8:26, 27.) Thus tru e prayer is an endless chain. It sta rts w ith God and ends w ith God. I t has been defined as the b reath of God in man retu rn ing whence it came. —Haldeman. ^.1%.
