T H E K I N G ’ S B U S I N E S S
This is w hat the fath e r asked this man to do. “ Ye shall drink no wine, neith er ye, nor your sons forever. This man’s fath er was a very wise fath er, and the son was a very wise son, for he obeyed his fath er, and ta u g h t all his ch ild ren ju st as he was taugh t, and then these children when they grew up and had a family, they too ta u g h t them no t to touch liquor. He made it a rule th a t none who belonged to th e family, or people called by the name of Rechab, should ever drink wine, or even raise grapes to make wine. A good many years afte r this fath e r lived, God tested these people, and our story says Je re m iah the prophet set before some of these people pots full of wine an(l glass es, and said unto them , “D rink.” Now, of course th e prophet knew it was w rong to drink wine, b u t if you will ju s t listen you will see why God asked His prophet to do this. Now afte r all the years these people had remembered the command given so long before, and so they answer th e prophet in these words, “We will drink no wine.” That is our memory verse, and as we say it over again, I w ant you to th ink and see if we too do no t w ant to say from our hearts, th a t we will never drink wine, or any liquor th a t is poison, to our m inds and bodies. Now God’s people Israel were not always obedient to His word, so He told His prophet Jerem iah to tell Israel how careful the people of Rechab had been to obey th eir
fath er perfectly. The prophet obeyed God and told Israel,- bu t they would not obey, and so God had to punish them for th eir disobedience. (W ith older prim aries picture a little of the suffering of Israel because of th e ir fail ure to obey). Children, you know th ere is a verse th a t says, “Children, obey your parents in th e Lord: for th is is rig h t.” Israel was punished, b u t th e people of Rechab were blessed by God for th eir obedience. Dear boys and girls, let us be obedient to our parents th a t we too may be happy and blessed. Closing P rayer.— Dear heavenly F ath e r, we th a n k Thee for th e obed ience of th e people in our story, and help us to obey Thee and our parents. BLACKBOARD SKETCHES By E ra Hansell Oct. 30.
