Roman soldiers, who stayed in a castle near the temple, heard of th e ir wicked plot, took his soldiers and ran in among th e people, and pu t P aul safely in the castle, un til a - tim e la ter when they would find out if P aul was a bad man. This made th e wicked men more angry th a n ever, and about 40 of them got together and made an agreem ent th a t they would not taste any food un til they had killed Paul. These men went to the chief _p riests and elders, and this is w h at they said. “You tell the chief captain to bring him down to-morrow before th e council, as though you w ant ed to ask more questions of him ; and while he is being brought, we will slip up and k ill him .’’ And rig h t here God used a boy, to save P au l’s life. This boy was P au l’s nephew, and he heard w hat these men were planning, and he ran a t once to th e castle and told his uncle Paul. Then P aul called one of the men and asked him to tak e his nephew to th e chief captain. Children, you know th is was not an easy thing to do b u t th is nephew played .the p art of a hero, and told th e chief captain all about th e plot on his uncle P au l’s life. The captain told him not to tell any one th a t he had told him of the plot. You see th is nephew could be depended upon to keep th e secret, which m eant saving his uncle. (Vivid ly picture the preparation w ith th e large number of soldiers and horses, and th e sending of P aul to another place , late in th e n ig h t). Here again we see how God watched over P au l and because a boy, his nephew, was brave to expose wrong, these wicked men could not harm Paul. God had told P aul no t to be afraid, b u t to be of good cheer. Teach memory verse. Closing P rayer.— Dear Lord Jesus, we th ank Thee for Thy loving care over us, and help us to always be brave to do our duty.
Approach.— How glad we all are to see Howard back w ith us this morning afte r his long vacation. He has had a nice trip and a good visit w ith his uncle, who lives on BEGINNERS a big farm , and of AND PRIMARY course who could Mabel L. M errill help having a rous ing gopd tim e every m inute in such a place w ith so many in teresting things to see and do, and w ith th e chance to see and know his uncle whom he had never seen before? How many of you have uncles? You know we have been having so many lovely stories about Paul, and from our story today we learn th a t th e re was one little boy to whom P aul was Uncle Paul, and I th in k he must have been very happy to have such a fine man as uncle,' don’t you? Lesson Story.—Do you remember how sorry P au l’s friends felt when he had to leave them , and how they show ed th e ir love? We remember too th a t even though P au l knew his life would be in danger in th e city to which he was going, yet he said he was not afraid and would be w illing to die if he could ju st tell the story of Jesus and see the people saved. A t th e tim e of th is story he is in th e big city of Jerusalem , where he had been warned of th e danger to his life. P au l’s friends and all who really loved Jesus in th eir h earts welcomed him gladly. He told them of th e places to which he had been, and how God had helped him, so th a t by his preaching many people had believed. When his friends heard his wonderful repo rt they rejoiced and thanked God for w hat had been done. Then P aul w ent into th e Temple, but some of th e wicked Jews who did not believe all th a t P au l said, gathered around and took hold of him and of course in a few moments a crowd gath ered. Soon the city was in an uproar. As these wicked men were about to kill Paul, th e chief captain of the
