He was for a tim e th e companion of P au l and ‘Barnabas in th e ir work and la ter seemingly th e com panion of P eter. I t was believed by th e early church th a t Mark w rote th is record as he received it from the lips of P e te r and as P eter preached it to th e Romans and th a t the record may therefore be very properly though t of as “The Gospel according to P eter.” It is full of a Roman atmosphere and one little word runs th rough it from be ginning to end which is tran slate d in different places by th e th ree sim ilar words “ Immediately,” “Straightw ay,” “F o rthw ith .” It is a record of g reat activity and of deeds ra th e r th a n words. The g reatest of all Servants rapidly and w ithou t delay does His work in th e world for mankind. He who, existing from th e beginning as God, and in th e form of God, now emptied H imself and tak ing th e like ness of men became th e g reat Servant of all even unto humbling H imself unto th e obedience by death on th e cross. It is th e Forty-first of th e Sixty-Six books of the Bible and as th e forty-first le tte r is “ P ” its positioh can be quickly recalled by th e sentence “P e te r’s story of th e A lm ighty Servant of God and of man.” The outline of. th e book may be quickly recalled by th e sen ten ces:— Advent of th e A lm ighty Servant. Bew ildering deeds of th e Almighty Servant. Claims of th e A lmighty Servant. Death of th e A lm ighty Servant. Exaltation of the A lm ighty Servant while He awaits His wage. The sixteen chapters of Mark may. be quickly memorized b / means of th e following sentences . A uthority of th e A lmighty Servant over men, devils and disease. Bridegroom now here heals palsied man and eats and drinks w ith sin ners and His disciples. Calls th e man w ith w ithered hand,

th e twelve disciples, and rebukes th e blasphemy of th e scribes and tells who are His b ro thers and sisters. Deep doctrine ta u g h t by Jesu s in parables and th e deep hushed by Him Even legions of devils, cancer and death are overcome by Jesus. FAITH only will bring m ighty works. It also brings martyrdom and much food fo r many. G reat commands of God are made void by trad ition and g reat faith in a Greek woman is honored. Hands of Jesus m ultiply th e seven loaves and open blind eyes but they m ust bear th e p rin t of the nails as must th e hands of every disciple. In th e Mountain, Jesus is tran s figured, and in th e valley below He casts out th e evil sp irit and teaches hum ility. Joined by God, husband and wife be come one flesh. Joined to his w ealth th e young man will not join Jesus bu t those who do join Him must d rink His cup and re ceive a hundred fold and eternal life. B artim aeus joins Jesus. King enters Jerusalem , cleanses His Temple, curses fig tree and answers chief priests, scribes and elders. Lord of the Vineyard, Caesar, Lord of the living, Lord of Lords and Lord of th e Treasury. Mount' of Olive’s message to the four about His Second Coming. N ight of th e Passover, L ast Supper, Agony in th e garden, B etrayal and Triax. On Him they pu t th e purple robe and crown of tho rn s and on Him spit. On Him they pu t th e cross. On Him, on th e cross and in th e tomb they look. Preaching th e Gospel to th e whole creation, the disciples go forth while th e Lord works w ith them. In th e study of each book, do not fail to memorize each sentence standing for each of the' chapters and then to form a careful m ental picture of each event, a3 you read associating it w ith the memory sentence. Read and form m ental pictures w ith such care th a t you will notice in Mark 8:22 how Jesus, because the man is blind, takes him by th e hand and leads him out of the village and how gradually he is healed and then sent home and not perm itted to go back through th e village.
