We bring that rich history and organizational performance to a renewed purpose and vision – encouraged by the new challenges of our neighborhood and recharged by the opportunity to leave a sustained legacy of community stewardship, neighbor relationships and overall well-being. Problem or Need Summerhill has a rich cross section of neighbors – new and legacy residents with racial and ethnic diversity across generations and wide ranges of financial and social classes. This current broad diversity when seen through this historical lens of profound redlining, gentrification and systems of bias and racism that framed Atlanta’s neighborhoods represents a sizable and undisputable need and opportunity to build community – and to do so with focused intention. There is a clear and compelling need to develop our community inclusive of old and new neighbors and businesses while connecting our rich history to our promising future. As Summerhill continues to emerge as a favorite neighborhood in Atlanta and across the Southeast region, it is significantly well positioned to emerge as the prototype for Dr. King’s beloved community. Dr. King’s Beloved Community is a global vision, in which all people can share in the wealth of the earth. We will use this as an inspiration and vision for the future of Summerhill. Project Goal(s) and Objective(s) SNDC is on a mission to develop our community through a strategic plan that advances policy, affordable housing advocacy, good neighbors in the know, wellness, a centered community, powerful partnerships, a celebrated Summerhill place and brand and a keeper and teller of our story. To ignite this effort, we are mobilizing around these objectives for the Summerhill Community Unity Festival: Build trust and relationship with and between legacy and new residents. Share rich Summerhill stories and history with residents visually and written to enhance the knowledge with Summerhill residents, community, stakeholders, and visitors. Promote and build awareness of local small businesses. Promote and build unity in our community by creating an atmosphere that will start conversations and build relationships with residents and other stakeholders. Develop and distribute business directory of Summerhill businesses. Develop and execute activities with intention that will involve ALL residents, current and former.
