Thieves highjack busload of tires

#ere is a busload of “hot” tires that went missing for a short while and police would like more information about it. %e Hawkesbury OPP detachment is in- vestigating a case of tire theft of huge propor- tions. Sometime overnight between Sept. 20 and Sept. 21, a school bus was stolen from the Landriault Tire yard on County Road 17 in Alfred-Plantagenet Township.%e bus was retired fromactive use and kept parked and used for storage at the tire yard. %ieves entered the yard and drove o$ with the bus after "rst loading it with new tires. Both the bus and the tires were later re- covered but the thieves had &ed. Total value of the items stolen was more than $10,000. Evidence gathered during the investiga- tion indicates three people were involved in the theft. Police have arrested one man, Jean-François Auprix, 28, of L’Orignal, and charged himwith vehicle theft, theft of pro- perty under $5000 value, and possession of stolen goods valued over $5000. He was released on a promise to appear in the pro- vincial court session in L’Orignal on Oct. 21. Anyone with more information on the case is asked to phone Const. Motorcycle accident A 48-year-oldman fromAlfred-Plantage- net Township was airlifted to hospital in Ottawa following a motorcycle accident in Champlain Township on Sept. 22. Police have not released the man’s name but have stated in the incident report that he appears to have non-life-threatening injuries. Police received a report just after 5 p.m. that day that amotorcycle had gone into the

ditch alongside Ritchance Road, near the Blue Corner Road intersection. Investigation indicates that a piece of equipment fell o$ the machine and caused the rider to lose control. Drug possession Speeding during a police radar checkstop onHighway 417 resulted in drug possession charges against four people from Québec. %e incident occurred Sept. 21 when an OPP o#cer clocked a vehicle going at a high rate of speed on the highway. A search of the vehicle after it was stopped turned up 45 grams of marijuana, 1.8 grams of cocaine, and 14 pills. %e driver, Raphael Levert, 19, of Mon- tréal, is charged with possession of narcotics

Police issue predator alert #e Ottawa police force is asking for help tracking down a possible predator after an incident in Orléans. Police issued a warning after receiving a report about a Sept. 24 afternoon incident on Orléans Boulevard near Longleaf Drive. A 14-year-old student had just gotten o$ her bus when an unidenti"ed man drove up in a pickup truck and tried to persuade her to get into his vehicle. He persisted despite her refusal and even after the driver of another vehicle came up from behind and began honking the horn after noticing the stalking situation. Police report notes the unknown male seemed to ignore the warning horn for a bit, continuing to pace the girl as she walked and trying to convince her to get in his vehicle. When another person came up on foot to the girl’s aid, the man drove away, heading south on Orléans Boulevard. %e unknown man is described as an English-speaking Caucasian, between the age of 25 to 30, with a very thin build and short blond hair. At the time he was wearing a dark t-shirt. %e vehicle is described as a compact pickup truck with an unknown marker on it. Anyone with information is asked to contact their local police or the Ottawa Police Service Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5944, or the CrimeStop- pers con"dential tips line at 1-800-222-8477. for the purpose of tra#cking. Also charged with possession for the purpose of tra#c- king are Kenley Barthelus-Simeon, 19, of Montréal, and Kevin Altidort, 18, of Laval. MohammedMassis, 19, of Montréal, is char- ged with cocaine possession and possession for the purpose of tra#cking, marijuana pos- session and possession for the purpose of tra#cking. All four are scheduled for the Oct. 21 provincial court session in L’Orignal. Assault case Police have arrested and charged an 18-year-old youth with assault using a wea- pon, and failure to obey a legal recogni- zance order. %e assault incident involved the mother of the accused. No names or other details have been released to protect the victim’s identity.
