YIN YOGA
Designed specifically to increase elasticity and mobility of connective tissue around joints – particularly knees, pelvis, sacrum, hips and lower spine – Yin yoga is a slow, gentle practice suitable for all levels. It is recommended as a complement to more dynamic asana based ‘yang’ practices that emphasize lengthening and contracting of muscles. In Yin Yoga, seated and supine poses are held for long durations, usually between 2-5 minutes each, to penetrate through muscles and reach the ligaments, tendons and fascia layers of the ‘yin’ tissue.
