By Jamie Barrie T he auto industry is coming off a great year and things are getting better for Fiat Chrysler and its employees. The company recently announced that it will invest more than $1 billion in a U.S plant in Michigan, and will pay 60,000 of its U.S. employees bonuses of $2,000 each after the recent Trump Administration’s U.S. tax code overhaul. CEO Sergio Marchionne said in a recent statement that these announcements reflect the company’s ongoing commit- ment to manufacturing in the U.S. Marchionne also said the recently signed tax bill is a great opportunity to share the savings the company will receive with its Fiat Chrysler employees. The $1 billion (USD) that is being invested in the Michigan plant will be to relocate production of its very popular Ram Heavy Duty truck line, which is currently being produced in Saltillo, Mexico, back to the U.S. in 2020 creating about 2,500 jobs in addition by the auto makers. This is great news to an industry that has taken an economic hit head on for many year and a sign of better things to come for the industry.
