The Next Next Common Sense - TEXT

• Balance Metrics : Track and adjust the proportion of intelligence focused on different time frames • Connection Protocols : Implement specific practices for linking insights across different time horizons • Future-Back Analysis : Regularly conduct exercises that work backward from long-term scenarios to identify near-term indicators By implementing these structured approaches to cognitive diversity, organizations can systematically reduce blind spots in their intelligence gathering rather than hoping diversity will emerge organically. These frameworks transform diversity from an abstract ideal into concrete prac- tices that can be implemented, measured, and improved over time. Intelligence Gathering Through Digital Networks Digital technologies have created unprecedented opportunities for distributed intelligence gathering through network-based approaches. Rather than relying exclusively on centralized teams or formal systems, organizations can now tap into the collective sensing capabilities of ex- tended networks. Procter & Gamble pioneered this approach with its "Connect + Develop" innovation model. Recognizing that most relevant innovation would occur outside its organizational boundaries, P&G created digital platforms connecting its challenges with a global network of over two million scientists, engineers, and other solution providers. This networked intelligence approach dramatically expanded P&G's innovation capacity and accelerated its development cycles. Similar network-based intelligence approaches have emerged across sectors: LEGO's digital platform connects the company with its most en- thusiastic customers who contribute product ideas, provide feedback on prototypes, and identify emerging play patterns.
