The Next Next Common Sense
combines these complementary measurement types. This framework helps ensure that organizations capture both the precision of metrics and the context of narratives.
Step 1: Define the complexity dimension to be measured
• Identify which aspect of complexity mastery you're trying to assess • Clarify the specific outcomes or patterns you want to understand
Step 2: Develop paired metrics and narratives
• For each dimension, create:
○ 2-3 quantitative metrics that provide trend data ○ A corresponding narrative collection approach that pro- vides context ○ A clear integration point where metrics and narratives inform each other
Step 3: Establish an interpretation protocol
• Define how the quantitative and qualitative data will be analyzed together • Create a structured process for resolving apparent contradictions between data types • Identify who will participate in the integrated analysis
Step 4: Design actionable output formats
• Create reporting templates that present integrated insights • Ensure outputs include both pattern recognition and specific examples • Link assessments directly to adaptation processes
