UWSP School of Health Sciences & Wellness Scholarships 2021

RYAN LEHMAN is a family and consumer sciences major who is minoring in business administration. In addition to this scholarship, Ryan has been selected as the College of Professional Studies Dean’s Award of Outstanding Junior in FCS. He is looking forward to becoming a licensed FCS teacher and helping students learn important life skills. Ryan has held numerous officer positions with the Stevens Point Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. Fern Horn Memorial Home Economics Scholarship This scholarship is awarded based on academic ability, professional involvement, plans for home economics teaching or as work as an extension home economist, particularly in the Youth Program, competence as a classroom teacher or extension home economist, and when appropriate, service as a cooperating teacher for UWSP home economics education majors. SOPHIE SMITH is a family and consumer sciences major who aspires to become a child life specialist. She is the first president of UW-Stevens Point’s new Child Life Specialist student organization and has attended various national conferences. Sophie inspires those around her and has led several of her peers to join her in pursuit of professional development. CPS Dean’s Award – Outstanding Senior in Family and Consumer Sciences Recipients of this award are selected based upon character, academic merit, service/contributions to the field, and commitment to the profession. MADDI TRIPLETT is majoring in family and consumer sciences with a minor in health education. She is involved as a member of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences at the national, state and regional levels. Maddi also belongs to the National Society of Leadership and Success. In her free time you can find her sewing masks that she donates to a nursing home in her hometown. John and Catherine Lader Scholarship Catherine (Hill) Lader earned two degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in FCS Education. The education she received at UWSP served her well as a classroom teacher, FCCLA adviser, state supervisor of FCS at the WI Department of Public Instruction, and a member of the National FCCLA Consultant Team. Catherine was heavily influenced by two role models at UWSP-Dr. Fern Horn and Dr. Agnes Jones. Both women were pioneers in the field of FCS and were dedicated to preparing their students thoroughly for a career in FCS. John and Catherine Lader continue to support FCS along with FCCLA and believe every secondary school in the state needs to have an FCS program.

KELLY YEAKEY is majoring in family and consumer sciences and minoring in health education, who plans to become an FCS teacher after graduating. Kelly is the president-elect for the Stevens Point Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. She belongs to the UWSP Honors program and made the Dean’s List fall of 2020. Fay Finch Clifford Scholarship This scholarship is in memory of Fay Finch Clifford. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide a scholarship for students majoring in dietetics or family and consumer sciences education.
