UWSP School of Health Sciences & Wellness Scholarships 2021

ERYN MURPHY is majoring in health promotion and wellness who endeavors to advocate for emotional health while contributing to community health projects. She is the co-conference coordinator for the National Wellness Institute-Student Chapter and is a teacher assistant for the School of Health Sciences and Wellness. Eryn also competes for the UWSP women’s volleyball club team. Jack Lane Memorial Scholarship The scholarship is intended to assist a worthy, current sophomore, junior or senior health promotion and wellness major. ANDREW SAUL will be graduating this May with a Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion and Wellness. While completing his undergraduate degree, he partnered with The Hiden Opponent, a non-profit that raises awareness for student-athlete mental health. Andrew advocated mental health across three colleges and represented more than 50 athletes. He hopes to work as a wellness coordinator and health coach. Andrew was awarded the 2021 Chancellor’s Leadership Award. John and Barb Munson Scholarship John Munson served as the associate dean for the former School of Health Promotion and Human Development. This scholarship is awarded to the current outstanding senior in health promotion and wellness. HAILEY STEFANIK is a health promotion and wellness major who plans to become a certified health coach. She is the secretary for the National Wellness Institute-Student Chapter and is part of the National Honor Society – Phi Eta Sigma. Hailey serves as a volunteer for the Marshfield Clinic Health System Community Care Connections Team, where she connects under- served patients with community resources. Bud Steiner Memorial Scholarship Oliver (Bud) Steiner was a 1965 graduate of UWSP who was one of the original three student managers of the then new University Center in the early sixties. After graduation he continued his employment with the Centers and was the long time Assistant Director of the three University Centers, mainly responsible for daily operations and facilities. Around 1980, he became one of the Assistants to the Assistant Chancellor of Student Life, responsible for all the business functions of the campus auxiliaries (Centers, Housing, Dining). He served in this capacity until his death in 1986. Bud was killed while riding his bike across Canada. He was trying to ride 5,000 miles and raise $50,000 for scholarships.

ABIGAIL VANDER HEIDEN is majoring in health promotion and wellness and minoring in psychology. She is a member of the National Wellness-Student Chapter and is an honor student who frequently makes the Dean’s List. Abigail hopes to become a health coach certified in cardiac sonography. Security Health Plan Health Coaching Scholarship Security Health Plan has established a scholarship fund to award health- related majors at UWSP who successfully complete the Security Health Plan Coaching internship. This program was established in 2019 and is offered in partnership between UWSP and Marshfield Clinic Health System. Award recipients must be in good academic standing, have an interest in health coaching for a career, and meet or exceed all expectations within the program.
