A Tale of Transformation

When Steve Wynn opened the Mirage in 1989, he transformed the Las Vegas experience. Before the Mirage, travel to Las Vegas was heavily centered around gambling and enter- tainers. When the Polynesian- themed Mirage with a 54-foot erupting volcano came on the scene, Wynn showed that a Las Vegas property could itself be entertaining. Unique attributes of the property included the Dolphin Habitat and Siegfried & Roy’s Garden, where guests could see live dolphins, tigers, lions and other wildlife up close.

In 2021, MGM sold the operations of the property to Hard Rock, a global gaming brand that has been developed and expanded by its owners, the Seminole Tribe of Florida. The Seminoles will be the first federally recognized Indian Tribe to serve customers on the Las Vegas Strip and they intend to make their presence known. Hard Rock closed the asset in the summer of 2024 to begin planning renovations, including a massive guitar tower akin to the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, which will dramatically

The Villas at the Mirage were also unique to the property, representing a sought-after luxury offering that hosted many celebrities over the years like Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, and Bono. The Villas are each 8,500 square feet and feature a private pool and a personal butler, and were the first completed Las Vegas designs to be featured in Architectural Digest in September 1992.

As of May 2025, construction is in progress with the guitar tower starting to go vertical and gut renovation of the exist- ing hotel tower underway. The property is expected to reopen in 2027.
