Mitsubishi Estate Mitsubishi Estate London Limited (MELL) is a full subsidiary of Mitsubishi Estate Europe Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Estate Company, Limited (MEC). MEC is one of largest quoted real-estate developers in Japan, with net assets of approximately £13 billion. MEC was established in 1937 as a spin-off of the real estate company of the Mitsubishi Group. Its largest concentration of the assets is around the Marunouchi area, the central business district between Tokyo station and Imperial Palace, where 280,000 people are working. The 120ha CBD today houses major Mitsubishi Group companies as well as other large firms not affiliated with the group, approximately 4,300 offices in total. In 1990, Mitsubishi Estate acquired the Rockefeller Group in New York City, which owns the Rockefeller Centre. Since then, the Rockefeller Group has been expanding its business portfolio consisting of not only 1221 & 1271 Avenue of the Americas (parts of the Rockefeller Centre) but also various other property development schemes across the United States. MELL established their London office in 1986 and since then has led on various landmark development schemes, including Paternoster Square, ITV PLC (72 Upper Ground) and most recently, 8 Bishopsgate, set to be the UK’s most sustainable office tower.
