hansgrohe brand Company

hansgrohe – our past informs our future Hansgrohe is a company steeped in tradition. It was founded by Hans Gro- he in 1901, with a small metalwork shop in Schiltach in the Black Forest. You will still find our Innovation Centre and corporate headquarters there today. These days, the hansgrohe brand has an international reputation for excel- lence, thanks largely to the commitment of its people. Each employee is passionate about water, but it’s our expertise which really set us apart as a company. These qualities have resulted in revolutionary bathroom innova- tions and pioneering water-saving technologies, yesterday, today and to- morrow. It al started with the continuous redevelopment of the hand shower, originally designed with an elegant and functional porcelain handle, as well as the first shower rail, Unica, which made daily showering accessible to all. The Mistral Eco shower, which reduced water consumption by 50% at the time, then set a milestone for a sustainable future. The PowderRain spray type creates a sensational showering experience thanks to the micro-drop- lets that gently cocoon the body, even with low water consumption using EcoSmart technology. These and other innovations will all have mentions in the next chapter of the hansgrohe brand’s success story.

In 1901, Hans Grohe founded his metalwork business. He was a visionary, recognising the changing role of the bathroom in the home (despite it being a fairly new concept to most at the time).

Klaus Grohe’s passion: water, the elixir of life. “Climate change is not an issue of the distant future, it is a present reality. Society as a whole needs to contribute to the reduction of CO₂ emissions. We are setting the course for the immediate future today.” Klaus Grohe, 1990

hansgrohe brand Responsibility

Taking responsibility – acting sustainably

Water is life. Water is our passion. We create inspirational moments with water, while also protecting this precious element. In so doing, we take responsibility for people and the environment – for our planet. Our aim is to do what we can within our sphere of influence to conser- ve all the resources that are becoming increasingly scarce on Earth or whose consumption fuels global warming. We are doing our bit to li- mit global warming to 1.5°C, as set out in the Paris Agreement. Our actions are guided by the good of the planet, as expressed in our maxim: IN TOUCH WITH OUR PLANET. Hansgrohe has divided our initiatives that aim to protect the planet into three fields of action: conserving water cycles, protecting the cli- mate and becoming part of the circular economy. And we have now taken this passion for water to the next level, by defining 10 initiatives with specific aims and projects that contribute to these three fields of action. These include the initiatives Green Production, Green Pa- ckaging and Green Products. For us, the biggest lever is saving water, energy and therefore CO 2 by reducing our products’ water consumption throughout their many ye- ars of use.

10

hansgrohe brand Responsibility

2030: consistent conversion to eco- products

As part of the Green Products initiative, we will be consistent- ly converting our product range over the next few years. Why? Because saving water, energy and thus CO 2 is our big- gest lever by far. And we do this by reducing our products’ water consumption throughout their many years of use. This is particularly pertinent if high-emission energy sources are mainly used to generate the hot water. Our major aim is to reduce the need for fresh hot water.

Our fields of action for protecting the planet in more detail:

Hansgrohe protects water cycles Safe fresh water is a precious resource that is not distributed equally. In water-scarce regions, its economical usage is vital for survival. Having said this, countries with plenty of fresh water still need to be constantly investing in its purification. Hansgrohe protects water cycles because our products save water, while offering the same old showering experience. Hansgrohe protects the climate Our products are becoming eco-friendly and thus supporting the goals set in the Paris Agreement and Glasgow Climate Pact. The consumption of hot water costs a lot of energy. Saving water therefore also means reducing the energy consumption of sanita- ry facilities in order to protect the climate. Hansgrohe is becoming part of the circular economy Every resource that doesn’t need to be acquired because it can be recycled protects our ecosystems and saves energy and water in production processes. Hansgrohe deve- lops long-lasting, repairable and recyclable products, sustainable packaging and works on using materials that go easy on our ecosystems as much as possible.

Life-cycle analysis of a hand shower

Use

Production

Waste disposal

> 99 % of the emitted CO 2 e

According to analysis by the Hansg- rohe Group*, the usage phase is by far the most CO 2 -intensive, emitting more carbon dioxide than when the hand shower was manufactured.

* Environmental Product Declaration, Hansgrohe AG, 2011

The simple way to calculate potential savings

Replacing a standard hand shower with a water-saving model pays off. By doing this, a four-person household can save more than 1,500 kilowatt-hours* of energy per year when heating water. This is the equivalent of 8 percent of this household’s average overall energy consumption. From a financial perspective, the purchase will pay off after around two months. With the hansgrohe water saving calculator, it’s easy to see the amount of water that could potentially be saved with our environmentally- friendly EcoSmart technology. It’s useful for both large and small cus- tomers, showing instantly the products that will help save money and conserve our most valuable resource. pro.hansgrohe.com/consultation/water-savings-calcula- tor

Various factors • Number of people in the household • Energy type • Average shower time in minutes

• Water costs in €/1000L • Energy costs in €/kWh • Choice of product

*The example calculation is based on a 5-minute shower per person and the assumption that water costs for the four-person household are €5.37/m³ and gas costs are 18 cents/kWh. The prices suggested here can be adapted to the individual to get the most accurate result possible.

12

XXL showering indulgence that envelops the whole body in real-life dreams of water using wonderfully soothing spray types from hand showers and overhead showers with diameters of 100 to 600 mm.

The angle of the overhead shower can be tilted so that the shower rain is adjusted to suit the specific shower area or a person’s height. The water sprays can then work their feel-good ma- gic and envelop the whole body.

An efficient way to empty the shower head to significantly reduce drips after showering. So that nobody and no shower surface gets unin- tentionally caught in the rain once dry.

CoolContact

CoolStart

LowFlow

This thermostatic mixer is fitted with innovative cooling technology to prevent it from getting too hot, keeping it nice and cool to the touch. For care-free showering with no need to keep a safe distance or fear scalding.

Unlike standard taps, which immediately consu- me energy when the lever is opened in the middle position hot water only flows from this environmentally friendly tap when the lever is actively moved. CoolStart supports reducing the resources used, CO 2 emissions and costs.

In business projects, water and energy savings are important criteria for building certification, such as LEED or BREEAM. This is why hansgrohe has developed LowFlow cartridges, providing a water flow of only 3.5 l/min.

Contactless taps

Pull-out function

ComfortZone

The sensor on this contactless tap acts like a motion sensor as it responds to changes in the infrared rays. Water only flows once it detects warmth from hands. This is economical and en- vironmentally friendly as well as contactless and hygienic.

The pull-out function on the basin tap expands the operating radius for maximum flexibility and simplified bathroom routines. The tap and pull- out spray are comfortable and intuitive to use, for example when washing hair at the basin.

More elbow room when washing hands, a com- fortable way to wash hair or just fill containers: The better the tap fits the space, the more flexi- ble the options become. We call the area bet- ween the tap and the ceramics the ComfortZone because you can use it however you like.

The ComfortZone test – ensuring perfect synchronisation for the tap and wash basin

The higher the tap, the more flexible the space. However, if a wash basin and tap do not match up properly it can result in splashback. To avoid this, hansgrohe has developed the ComfortZone test. Carried out under realistic conditions, the test reveals just how well customers’ taps work in combination with conventional wash basins from leading manufacturers. Free PDF The test results from over 12,000 combinations can be downloaded from pro.hansgrohe.com/consultation/ comfortzone

How the ComfortZone test works

1. Free space test Is there enough of a gap in the combination of tap and wash basin? A test sphere is positioned between the tap and wash basin to check how easy and comfortable hand washing is. 2. Splash test Is there any splashing when the tap is turned on? The tap is opened and closed several times under different water pressures. Between tests, the splashes are analysed and the wash basin rubbed dry. 3. Practice test Is there any splashing when washing the hands? A standardised hand model is passed under the water spray and the splashes outside of the wash basin analysed.

Tilted and offset on the side wall: The installation on the side panel is ideal for corner sinks, sinks with draining boards or sinks with tap holes that are positioned to the side. All the brackets are screwed to the side. You should avoid parallel displacement of the sBox. If displacement is required for the installation, there must not be more than 30 mm between the tap and outlet axis of the sBox.

Vertically below kitchen tap, tilted backwards or for- wards: The tilted back assembly is recommended if the rear wall is offset to the front or if there are obstacles on the floor. The bra- ckets are all aligned to the front. This way, the sBox can simply be tilted forwards and clicked out of all brackets. This allows for quick and easy cleaning. The sBox can be tilted backwards or forwards. Maximum recommended tilt angle: ± 20°.

At the back of the rear wall, tilted sideways: Laterally tilted installation is an option where the- re are obstacles on the ground such as waste pull-out or drainage systems, or when the angle valves are difficult to access. The brackets can be screwed to the base, sides or rear panel. Maximum recom- mended tilt angle: ± 20°.

Best placement – vertically below kitchen tap: The lower brackets are firmly screwed to the base. The upper brackets can be either screwed to or suspended on the rear panel. The mounting ele- ments can be moved and rotated 360°. This makes installation fast and easy.

Low pressure

The ability to lower the tap in front of a window

CoolStart

Low water pressure? No problem. Kitchen taps fitted with low-pressure technology can be used with a water pressure as low as 0.2 bar. Suita- ble for boilers and heat exchangers.

The sink is in front of the window, which opens inwardly? Here’s the perfect solution for the space issue: The kitchen tap can be easily re- moved from its holder and placed on the sink.

Unlike standard taps, which immediately consu- me energy when the lever is in the middle posi- tion, hot water only flows from this environmen- tally friendly tap when the lever is actively moved. CoolStart automatically reduces the resources used, CO 2 emissions and costs.

Two separate waterways

MemoryFunction

Two water pipes in this tap ensure that opti- mised and standard tap water are always kept separate from one another. This provides reas- surance that the customer is getting the right water quality from the tap.

Custom settings can be stored to fill various drinking vessels – the water automatically stops once the preset amount has been poured. Sim- ply enter the amount of water and double click the start button for the water to flow.

The app provides important information about the kitchen tap. It notifies users when the filter or CO 2 cartridge needs to be replaced. It reports malfunctions and sends push notifications to smartphones on request.
