A FISHER OF MEN

James and John, they were fisher­ men. The Lord takes ordinary peo­ ple, who are thoroughly dedicated to Him and filled with His Holy Spirit, to accomplish His divine program in this world. On the sur­ face, Peter was doubtful material for leadership. His character refer­ ences would not have been out­ standing if you were setting about to start a large organization today. The Gospel writers do not shield him in any sense as they point out some of these rough edges. Peter had been caught in the spiritual net and was brought to Jesus Christ by Andrew his brother. What a tremendous thing this is, and a real lesson for each of us to work with our relatives and loved Page 53

One of the primary thrusts of Bible study should be application. We must put truths gained into practice for our own individual lives. This is particularly true when it comes to the experience of those whose names and deeds are re­ corded for us on the pages of sacred Scripture. In John 1:40-42 we read of the conversion of Andrew, and then his personal evangelism directed toward his brother Peter. The Lord used unusual men to establish His Church. While we do not know the former occupations of many of the disciples, we are acquainted with the means by which Peter made his livelihood. Along with Andrew and two other brothers,
