Hudbay Minerals has secured the necessary private land and permits for Phase I of its Copper World project located in the Santa Rita mountain, south of Tucson, allowing them to proceed with mining operations entirely on their own property. It projects a $1.7B investment with over 3000 jobs. Copper is everywhere in our modern lives. It’s in the wires that power and cool our homes and vehicles, our plumbing systems, the medical devices that keep us healthy, and the renewable energy systems driving us toward a greener future. It’s essential for storing and transmitting electricity and is a key part of batteries, solar panels, wind turbines, and household electronics. Whether lighting up our cities, creating connectivity, or fueling new technologies, copper is crucial to keeping energy flowing efficiently and sustainably. As our world relies more on advanced technologies, the demand for copper will only increase, making a reliable, local supply essential for meeting the needs of our modern society. Domestic copper mining operations, like Copper World, are critical to the United States’ economic strength and national security. In 2023 the United States had to import 46% of the copper it used. Relying on foreign countries to supply the minerals we need is unsustainable and irresponsible. Hudbay will help increased the supply of copper needed by American industry.
