A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 7
Red Nose day was a resounding success, raising over £1,100 so far. Congratulations to 7EEL on winning the Best Joke contest for Year 7! I would like to congratulate Year 7 for the effort the vast majority went to, to wear red on Friday, supporting Red Nose day. The Year 7 Basketball team played in the final v Orleans Park winning by a score of 40-22. Well done for such a great 1st season. On 6th March, Year 8 and Year 7 classes were given the challenge of finding a way of representing Pi, either as a poster or some other way. They have also been set the challenge for memorising the most digits of pi! On Friday 14th March, the official Pi Day (or International Day of Mathematics), Ms Tongue and Mrs Dhir were given the unenviable task of choosing just 3 winners, for each year, from a fabulous array of posters, pies, cakes and auditory masterpieces. The winners for Year 7 were: 1st place: Emilia B, 7ESU for her Pi-cycle 2nd place: Marianne M, 7PFO for her affectionately dubbed Bird Pi 3rd place: Grace B, 7SON for her pi endorsed cake Here are the results of the Inter House Benchball tournament that took place on Monday after school. It was a great contest and the Year 7’s all played in great spirit. 1st = SDE, 2nd = PCO, 3rd = EEL, Joint 4th = FLY, ESU and PFO, 7th = SON, 8th = FGC Year 7 Netball tournament took place on Wednesday morning at LEH. The A team got through to the semis and lost to LEH. They came 4th overall in the cup competition. The B team won their play off match v RTS to finish 5th in the plate competition. Well played Year 7! Epraise totals for the term will be revealed in the final bulletin next week. With the end of term fast approaching we are looking forward to next weeks’ Easter Bonnet Parade and finishing off the term with this wonderful event. A reminder that school finishes at 12.30pm.

BOOK OF THE MONTH
‘The Girl of Ink & Stars’ by Kiran Millwood This book is a captivating story about a girl called Isabella, a cartographer’s daughter. She lives on an island called Joya. When her best friend Lupe disappears, Isabella is determined to join the search party by using her mapmaking skills and knowledge of the stars which help guide the search. The world beyond the walls is filled with monsters and ancient myths. Isabella must save not only Lupe but the island too. I enjoyed the character, Isabella, since she was resilient - she never gave up - and brave. I also liked how Isabella’s maps and knowledge transformed into something magical. The more you read the more secrets are revealed. If you liked ‘The Last Bear’ by Hannah Gold or ‘The Wolf Wilder’ by Katherine Rundell, since they also feature brave girls in magical settings, then you would enjoy this book.
