Do you know that there’s a Malaysia Bridge in South Korea? Malaysia Bridge was constructed in 1965. It was named Malaysia Bridge when Malaysia contributed 5,000 Malaysian dollars towards building the bridge in Paju, Gyeonggi. The Malaysia Bridge holds immense historical significance to the local population and provides a lifeline to the Koreans. It serves as a symbol of the enduring friendship between Malaysia and Korea, a testament to the support extended by Malaysia during a time of great need for Korea. MIGHT hope this visit will enhance businesses and collaboration, especially in the high technology area. The visit to the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT) aims to rejuvenate the Malaysia-Korea Technology Centre (MYKOR), formed in 2008. The MYKOR is a platform for technology transfer, investment and collaboration between Korean and Malaysian industry players. We had an exciting day at At SilTerra, a leading Malaysian semiconductor manufacturer. Since its establishment in 1995, they have offered cutting-edge CMOS fabrication processes for integrated circuits (ICs) in Advanced Logic, Mixed Signal & Radio Frequency and High Voltage applications. We were honoured to meet SilTerra’s Chairman, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir, and CEO, Dr Albert Pang Shu Koon. We were briefed on their current and future plans in Malaysia’s electrical and electronics (E&E) ecosystem. We were also given a field trip tour of their manufacturing plant. As we stepped into the clean room, we couldn’t help but feel like we were living in a futuristic world resembling a mix of Baymax and Teletubbies, bundled and wrapped in specially designed gear, ensuring the utmost cleanliness and protection for the delicate processes around us. SilTerra is crucial in Malaysia’s strategic development, serving as a talent incubator hub for the E&E industry. The company collaborates closely with universities to nurture and develop local talent. By fostering partnerships with academia, SilTerra is creating an environment where aspiring individuals can thrive and contribute to the growth of the E&E sector. Today, the MIGHTians witnessed the groundbreaking ceremony of a multi-purpose court and MIGHT Sports Facility at MIGHT Partnership Hub, led by Datuk Dr. Mohd Yusoff Sulaiman, President and Chief Executive Officer of MIGHT. The court and sports facility will be designed with green features, transforming MIGHT Partnership Hub into a Net Zero innovation. The building of the court is to create a positive work culture that values work-life balance, enhances employee happiness, increases productivity and contributes to employee well-being.
