Ts Dr Raslan Ahmad, FASc was appointed by the Academy of Science Malaysia (ASM) as a member of the National Task Force Committee. He also assumed the role of Chairman for Working Group 3 (Downstream Sector) under the supervision of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change (NRECC). Mr Mahalil Amin Abdul Malek and Ts Mohamad Azreen Firdaus Abd Aziz were involved as members of Working Group 3. They focused on developing business models for the rare earth industry downstream particularly on manufacturing high-end value-added products such as electric motors and super magnets. Throughout the process, MIGHT actively participated in series of task force committee meetings, workshops, and stakeholder engagements. As an initiative spearheaded by ASM, MIGHT was a knowledge partner, contributing to formulating of business models. These models intended to serve as guidelines for the nation in developing the rare earth industry, spanning from upstream to downstream and unlocking new economic opportunities. The final report of the business model was presented by the Chairman of the Task Force Committee, led by Academician Datuk Fateh Chand FASc and the ASM team, to YB Tuan Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Minister of Natural Resources, Environment & Climate Change on November 17 th , 2023. The business model received approval from NRECC and to be tabled at the Cabinet and National Mineral Council (MMN).
