As part of the study’s deliverables, a final stakeholder’s briefing was conducted to share the study’s outcomes and findings with relevant key stakeholders. The final stakeholders’ briefing occured in a Sharing Economy Symposium hosted and organised by MIGHT. The symposium was a significant gathering, fostering insightful discussions and collaboration. Dato’ Luqman Ahmad, the Deputy Secretary-General of the Ministry of Economy, delivered a compelling inaugural address highlighting the importance of regulatory frameworks in the development of the sharing economy. The symposium featured a study briefing presentation by Dr Abdul Rahman Hamdan from MIGHT, Who provides who a comprehensive
overview and findings of the study on the regulatory framework and the evolution of the sharing economy. It further delved into specific industry case studies, with presentations by industry experts such as Mr Wan Md Hazlin Agyl, Mr Nabil Feisal Bamadhaj, and Mr Muhammed Shakir, shed light on the legal aspects and challenges faced by the industries within the sharing economy, particularly in the car-sharing and service-sharing sectors. Insights from Ts Azmi Md Said of MyData Consulting was also featured. Additionally, Dr Zouhair of DM Analytics presented the impact of the sharing economy on market dynamics and labour forces. The symposium facilitated meaningful exchanges, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of the sharing economy’s regulatory landscape, challenges, and opportunities. With a successful conclusion, the event provided a platform for stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue, paving the way for collaborative efforts to shape the future of the sharing economy in Malaysia. In addition to the symposium, selected local platform operators such as Sushivid, Wahdah, FastGigs, ERTH, and MyDesa also set up booths to showcase their contributions during the event.
