Free The Seed Sdn Bhd’s have grown remarkably since 2014, when they won the National GCIP 1.0. From a humble suite at the NCIA building to 9 operational plants starting with just four employees, now they have over 120 employees. FTS shipped 40 containers of biodegradable fruit tray products with a total contract value of RM25 million (US$6m) to Europe in 2018. As of 2022, FTS has shipped 118 containers to Europe, Australia and many countries worldwide, mitigating 600,000 kg of carbon dioxide emissions. This success story were shared with Mr Gerswynn McKuur, Global Cleantech Innovation Programme Coordinator, from United Nation Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), who inaugurated the opening of Plant 1 in Gurun, a hub for producing biodegradable hospital products and food trays.
