Kara & Larry Horat CALIFORNIA Achieving Peace and Security
to be a part of who I am. Once I adopted the mentality of being a part of who I am, everything changed.” With an all-in attitude, the full support of husband Larry, and guidance from her immediate support team, Kara and her teammates built a strong, part-time Melaleuca business, which helped return financial peace to her and Larry’s life. When the Horats first started with Melaleuca, Kara led the way while Larry focused on keeping their real estate business alive. But in the fall of 2019, Larry joined Kara, and they now work their Melaleuca business full time together. What started as a need to improve financial security soon expanded into a desire to help others. “Very quickly, we realized that what we had our hands on would not only help us but this vehicle could be amazing for the many other people we could impact,” Kara says. “We also realized that Melaleuca is not a numbers game. It’s a human game. The focus is on the people.” When it comes to approaching others, Kara and Larry have some great advice based on their own experience. “Be bold, be authentic, be kind, be patient, be understanding, and be helpful,” Kara says. To which Larry adds, “And be brave. Just approach them! The worst they can say is no .”
When the great recession struck the world in 2008, Larry and Kara Horat’s business ventures took a heavy hit. And though they had multiple streams of income, their investments were all tied to the real estate economy, which suffered the brunt of the recession’s beating. With many years devoted to real estate, the Horat’s livelihood quickly began vanishing before their eyes. “We began to realize that we didn’t have the level of security we thought we did,” says Kara. “And we had a financial need that had to be met immediately.” Aware of their situation, one of Kara’s good friends, Corporate Director 2 Heidi Bartolotta, suggested the Horats explore Melaleuca as a possible avenue to add some financial security. It wasn’t the first time Heidi had introduced the idea, but this time Kara decided it was time to give it go. “When I first joined Melaleuca, I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was grieving the loss of my real estate business and the lifestyle we had built around that business,” Kara reflects. “I had to come out of that and answer the questions, ‘Where did I want my life to go? And where was it going?’ I also needed to decide if Melaleuca was going to be something I do, or was it going
For the Horats, belief came as they saw the impact Melaleuca has on their lives and the lives of others. “Once we saw the Melaleuca model in action and the mission coming to life, we knew we would be able to truly enhance lives,” Kara says.
