Y10 Bulletin 28.03.25

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 10

We are now in the final two weeks of this half term and I am sure everyone is looking forward to the Easter Break. This week students had an assembly with Mr Bannister, Head of Sixth Form, about post-16 options. This involved looking at A levels but also courses such as T levels, BTEC and apprenticeships, which offer more practical opportunities for students who might prefer doing more practical subjects. In due course all students in Year 10 will have an opportunity to speak with a careers advisor about their post-16 options and there will also be some assemblies conducted by other Sixth Forms in the area, as students start to consider their careers after they have left School. It was great to see so many students dressing up in red last week on Friday in support of Red Nose Day. Please pay any voluntary donations via Parent Pay online. Tutor groups also came up with ‘cheesy jokes’ where the best ones were selected to be read out by members of staff in school. This video was then played in PM registration allowing for a very hilarious fun filled end to the day. Congratulations to 10ERU for winning the best joke competition. Well done!

Epraise totals for the term will be revealed in the final bulletin next week.

Congratulations to Nina C, 10SPI for achieving a distinction in her recent Grade 4 guitar exam. This is a fantastic result!

Next week is the final week of term. Students are reminded to ensure that they empty out their lockers, so that all PE and lunchboxes are taken home.

MRS PORTEOUS, HEAD OF YEAR 10

BOOK OF THE MONTH

‘One of Us is Lying’ by Karen M. McManus The book is set in a high school, where five teenagers Addy, Cooper, Nate, Bronwyn and Simon all end up in detention together. A few minutes into the detention a car accident happens right outside, while their teacher hurries out to check what has happened, one of the students, Simon, falls dead. The remaining four students are the main suspects because they were present during his death BUT…. who did it? I really loved reading this book, after the first chapter I was hooked and couldn’t seem to put it down. There are cliffhangers everywhere. New evidence keeps popping up and every time I thought I knew who had killed Simon, more clues came out suggesting another person. Every character has a secret to hide, and an interesting backstory. At the end there was such a plot twist that I was left with my jaw hanging open, I could never have guessed how the murder case unravels. I recommend this to people who love murder mystery!!
