Home City Ice addition & reno wins Hollenbach Const. wins ABC Merit Award
BOYERTOWN, PA — Hol- lenbach Construction, Inc. received an Award of Excel- lence in the industrial cat- egory for its work on the Home City Ice addition and renova- tion project in East Greenville. The Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter’s pre- sented the award to Hollen- bach at the 23rd Merit Con- structionAwards of Excellence program on November 14th in Norristown. The awards pro- gram recognizes outstanding projects throughout eastern Pennsylvania built by ABC contractors. Home City Ice, a nationally recognized ice manufacturer, partnered with Hollenbach Construction on this project. Glenn Ebersole , strategic vice president, business devel- opment/marketing said, “The Home City Ice manufacturing facility is a very unique and innovative total transforma- tion of an early 1900’s “ice plant” into a modern “state- of-the-art” ice manufacturing facility.” The successful completion of the project was not an easy assignment. A major chal- lenge was installing large new equipment into some existing space and also maintaining ice production during the project.

Tim Little, President shared how the challenge was met. “The entire East end wall of the existing building was removed and a steel rail system was constructed to move a 21,000 pound ice maker into place with only 4” of clearance while being rolled the full length of the building. All ice manufac- turing work was taken off line and work by Hollenbach had to be completed on this phase and ice production started by mid-April, 2012, in time for the owner’s peak manufacturing period. Spillman Farmer’s Citation of Merit Award-winning Arts Plaza, is a raw, open-air space for the arts at Lafayette College in Easton, PA. The structure transformed a former auto- repair facility into a dynamic outdoor teaching space that responds to its natural environ- ment and built context. Spillman Farmer ’s Firm Award and Citation of Merit Award follow the firm’s Silver Medal, awarded in 2012 for the ArtsQuest Center. RKTB gives 50 tree donation
NEW YORK, NY – RKTB commemorated its 50-year anniversary with a 50-tree donation to the city this fall. The New York-based firm, which specializes in multifam- ily housing, educational facili- ties, healthcare facilities, and performance spaces, donated ten trees to each borough of NewYork City to represent its citywide work. Trees will be planted in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park, Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, and other locations in Staten Island, Manhattan, and Queens through the New York Restoration Project.
Since its founding in 1963 by Bernard Rothzeid, RKTB has dedicated itself to build- ing in New York City. This gift commemorates the firm’s past legacy and its future work in the city.
