So what’s it like to be back aboard a cruise ship, what can passengers expect, and how can they prepare themselves for new procedures and stringent safeguards as the cruise world sets a course for a new dawn?
Vaccinations Most cruise companies require guests aged 18+ to be double-vaccinated at least 14 days prior to sailing. Your official vaccine status record must be an official certificate in digital or printed format issued by your local health authority. You can download this as a PDF from the NHS website or obtain a digital NHS Covid Pass via the NHS App.
Insurance Suitable travel insurance cover is mandatory for all UK guests. Insurance documents will be checked at the terminal and boarding denied to anyone without appropriate cover. A minimum of £2 million medical cover and provision for Covid-19 emergency evacuations and medical expenses is advisory. Hays Travel offers a cruise-specific policy with cover to match your cruise company’s requirements.
On board All guests and crew are required to follow enhanced health and wellbeing measures on board. Face masks must be worn indoors and outdoors when social distancing is impossible. Disinfection measures include enhanced air filtration systems, UV-C cleaning, electrostatic fogging, and biocidal sanitising. Pre-booking may be required to dine with friends, entertainment will be adapted, and social distancing observed in show-lounges.
At the port Checking-in online streamlines the embarkation process. Enter the terminal on your own or with travelling family or household group; wear a face covering if required, and adhere to port and cruise staff’s instructions through check-in and security. Pre-boarding medical screening may include rapid antigen tests and body temperature checks; boarding may be denied if you’re potentially infected by Covid-19.
Excursions You can only go ashore during your cruise on one of the cruise line’s verified shore excursions to ensure the same high standards of health and safety ashore as on board. You’ll be required to follow social distancing, face coverings, and hand sanitisation measures. Tour buses will operate at reduced capacity and all guests will be screened before re-embarking the ship.
Future Cruise Credit If you have recently been affected by any cancelled cruises and have a future cruise credit to put towards a new booking now is the perfect time to get your next cruise booked for 2022/23 with Hays Travel.
