Best of Cruise - September 2021 (PTC)

F E A T U R E

It was such an honour to be asked by P&O Cruises to be Godmother to their newest ship Iona. It is good to know that I will be part of this wonderful vessel as she sails to amazing destinations all over the world. DAME IRENE HAYS

The naming ceremony was very special – it was an emotional moment when the bottle smashed into the ship’s hull to the music of Gary Barlow, fireworks and streaming confetti, signalling the start of something amazing. It was good to be able to share the event across the globe with everyone watching from home, including some of our own Hays Travel team who have worked so hard for our cruise customers over our 41 years. Touring the ship for the first time was very exciting. As you might expect, every detail is perfect and elegant, with lots of natural wood and innovative art. It’s light and airy and you’re never far from a spectacular view of the horizon with the stunning SkyDome, the soaring glass Grand Atrium, new conservatory mini-suite cabins and an infinity pool with a wonderful panorama. On top of restaurants, luxurious spas, a gin distillery and theatre, the music director Gary Barlow has created a wonderfully intimate music lounge.
